The only reason Vader died to Palpatine is because he had sympathy for his son and his arm was cut off. Plus, Palpatine made his suit weak against his powers.

Vaders main power was force choke and telekineses (his lightsaber was his main weapon) while palpatines is force lightning. Only the strongest dualists could break out of force choke and palpatines force lightning is far more dangerous than vaders blue force lightning
