Separate First Name and Last Names - Excel Tips and Tricks

Learn how to separate first name and last names.

METHOD 1: Using Ctrl + E
Here are the steps.
1) Enter first name.
2) Go to any cell below that cell.
3) Ctrl + E
5) Enter last name.
4) Repeat step 2 to 3.

This shortcut works in all versions of Excel, from Excel 97 all the way up to Excel 2016. And it works in all types of cells, including cells that contain text, numbers, and formulas.

METHOD 2: Using formula
Use this formula for first name.
=LEFT(A2,(FIND(" ",A2)))

Use this formula for last name.
=TRIM(RIGHT(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ",REPT(" ",255)),255))
