I love how nutritionists answer the zero sugar question with 'it might even cause cancer but the bad effects of sugar overconsumption is so bad, getting JUST cancer beats getting cancer plus diabetes, plus heart disease and so much more.'

As a self proclaimed addict to soda, switching to diet/sugar free has been a god send personally.

Ok if I'm a weirdo but diet sodas have materially improved my level of general enjoyment

I personally feel the best when I avoid all sodas, though I still enjoy one on occasion. When I buy a pack of diet soda I end up drinking 3-5 cans per day and then my palate is ruined for the blander healthy food I need to eat.

Diet soda has annihilated my late night sugar cravings! Between one coke zero or 4 donuts, ill take the coke zero.

Zero Sugar pop has been a heavenly change. I eventually want to eliminate it, but it's has helped losing fat.

I’m not a diet soda gal (I prefer sparkling water; the lemon/lime one is very comparable to Sprint imo). Fat just fell off when I stopped drinking sugar filled sodas. It was amazing to experience! Amazing enough that I no longer care to drink sodas anymore.

As long as you don’t substitute the calories you lose from switching from regular soda to diet soda with something else, you are good. I have a pretty serious Diet Mountain Dew habit, but I always say that if that is my only real vice, I am good with that.

I’m on a Keto diet and Diet Soda is an absolute life saver for sugary/sweet cravings! I don’t get them often, maybe once a week, but I always have some cans of diet soda in my fridge at all times so that when I do have that craving I can just stop it in its tracks immediately

Zevia is the best diet soda I’ve ever tried. Its uses stevia as the sweetener instead of aspartame, or surcralose, and it taste the best!

A long time ago I lost 50 lbs. At the time people were constantly asking me how I was doing it, it wasn't sexy, it was just calorie counting and portion control (and resistance exercises). I have never been a big soda drinker, I would have one from time to time (i.e. couple times a month). When people would ask my advice I'd tell them I'm actually envious of people who get a lot of calories from soda because it'd be sooo simple if you just switch out the sugar soda for another drink that you like, instant calorie reduction right there. I've always loved water, I was never much of a liquid calories kinda person. When I cut calories I have to cut actual solid food and that makes it harder in terms of hunger. I'm not saying it's easy to give up soda you like, just saying that's a single, simple step.

I find I do better without Diet Sodas. I think the Artifical sweetness turns on my appetite big time and also messes with my satiety. I do best on a low carb/ zero sugar and artifical sweetners have me craving more sweets

I do know that once I started seriously looking at my soda consumption, I was probably drinking 400 or 500 calories worth a day on some days, so switching to diet probably would have gotten me the same calorie deficit a lot of people suggest basically for free

While I'll drink them every now and again when cutting, they wreak total havoc on my gut if I drink them too often. They are definitely not good for the gut microbiome, and can be responsible for systemic effects through that proxy, so not healthy in general.

yeah this is absolutely true. I switched to diet soda years ago and also I use Splenda in my coffee usually only one or two packs by doing this especially as I’ve gotten older into my 40s over the years I have cut out hundreds of thousands of calories it’s no joke, those calories we’re going to go somewhere most likely fat.

I rarely drink diet soda but I do love soda. I’m going to try sparkling flavored water ( calorie free of course) and see if it satisfies my cravings.
