Over the last few years we’ve made a few changes to our car camping set up. Here’s a few changes that have made sleeping in the back of a car way more comfortable and cozy.

1. Window covers!
We used a roll of insulation from Home Depot and cut window covers for our back windows. Not only does it help keep the car warmer in colder months but it keeps the car dark at night and gives us privacy!

2. Foam mattress
We’ve tested out a few different mattresses and before we had one we just used our sleeping pads but this one is by far our favorite! We ordered it off of Amazon and it has a washable cover so that we can clean it before going on a new trip. We don’t have to worry about inflating it or getting holes in it.

3. Blankets and pillows
We used to hate bringing extra stuff because it takes up space in the car but having more blankets (we love our @gorumpl) in addition to our sleeping bags has made sleeping way more cozy. We also bought toddler memory foam pillows (they are about half of the size of normal pillows) and store them in the car.

4. String lights and rechargeable LED light bar
We use our plug in string lights outside of the car and it makes evenings at camp way more enjoyable. Once we’re in the car for the night we have 2 LED light bars that we put above us so that we can read without using any of the interior car lights!
