Beyond the music and emotion and the beauty of the moment, I love that Satine’s makeup wasn’t 100% perfect from beginning to end. She’s been on stage, her lipstick is bleeding, her eyeshadow has been creasing and smearing from sweat because of the lights, she’s literally dying and she is making her stand.

Nicole Kidman is a beautiful woman. Her character is fading fast from a chronic illness and she is standing up and going so strong she broke the throttle.

I love the way Ewan and Nicole are able to convey emotion through this song. I absolutely believe their pain and then increasing joy as they realize they do love each other and nothing else matters.

Honestly can't think of any other movie where a character looks like they have sobbed themselves raw in the face than this scene. Kidman's eyes are just burning with tears and emotion. The harsh lighting, the soft singing, really tight in on her face after all the big, lavish, loud spectacle... it's very well made.
