Yeah, if I lose a match because the strings made some of the pins fall, when it was suppose to be a split if it was free fall pins, uppercuts are being sent to everyone. This is ridiculous. 😢

This isn’t real bowling, it’s a carnival game.

Why is this allowed??? It is an embarrassment to the sport of bowling

Wonky Pin action, where the strings are phantom knocking over pins that otherwise wouldn’t have fallen over. It’s not fair.

We are on strings at TenPin Coventry for the YBC. there are some very weird leaves and pins falling over by string pulls with no contact. Hate them different sport with them.
But as a YBC our competition averages on normal freefall competitions have been higher than the YBC averages in some cases by quite a way...
As for cheaper look around at difference of cost of 1 and 3 games between Freefall and String for the public/League and you will see little if not no difference in costs.
The amount of string centres i am seeing now doing the Unlimited Bowling on certain nights from 1800 till close that don't want leagues because they pay less than the public is just funny..

The problem in England is the centres might be opening or switching to string pins but don't care about the lane conditions. Most of them hate leagues here and just want the public bowlers in to make more money, you'll be lucky to walk into a bowl and have oil on the lanes . and the answer I always get is " well the public don't know the difference " .

I like string pins (haven't ever bowled on them) because they're cheaper and easier to operate than the other pinsetters. This means that more bowling alleys (with more lanes) can be built and will introduce more bowlers to the sport!

I’m from Canada. So I am currently a 5 pin bowler and I have been bowling since I was 7 years old. My first 7 years in the game was done on traditional “Freefall” without strings. Unfortunately the place where I started at was shut down mid season and we were moved to another bowling centre to complete our season. The place we relocated to was string operated. I have since the age of 15 bowled comfortably on sting pinsetters and it is the norm for 5 pin bowling in Canada. I’ll also point out that I was also later on a mechanic who serviced pinsetters.

I totally understand your perspective with having a 10 pin pinsetter operated on strings. I mean we discussed it at the centre I worked at, but to be completely honest… We’d never thought that it would be possible.

Too many strings on the pins, can lead up to pins being knocked down technically by string. I call that “String Pull”, it happens in our game as well. But we tend to just go with it.

There are fewer components for a string pinsetter, so therefore the maintenance costs are a lot lower. We still have to periodically replace some parts but our overall price overhead comes in lower. The game for us is still very competitive.
