COMMENT: Have you ever bowled on string pins? What other challenges should we try next?

Thanks but no thanks. I would quit first.

It would absolutely suck if my local center went to string pin. For as much as I love Bowling, and as much as I enjoy League, I would literally cry.

Just by watching this video, I can tell that the strings impact the pin fall and make it way worse. The strings also hit other pins making them fall too.

Yes, absolutely! My wife and I bowled at a local bowling alley with stringged pins and the action of the pins, after being hit, was totally different! For open bowling, ok, but not league or pro playing!

I’ve been bowling 35 years and will give up the game if they go to strings. Every business has expenses. If you don’t want to pay for power and mechanics, maybe buying a bowling alley isn’t for you?!?!

Love the baker game, cool to see the whole crew come together for each video. Keep up the good work!

I can’t imagine me ever feeling like I could take this game seriously if I had to bowl in a house that had string pins

I would quit bowling also if I had to bowl strings.

I went to the ITC and USBC headquarters and bowled 2 games free fall and 2 games String. I went in thinking a lot of negativity towards string pin like most bowlers, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I bowled about the same on both. I didn’t notice much difference, other than the rack would sometimes drop down 2-3 times to untangle strings, but was flawless. One positive in string is the pin placement on string is much more accurate, no offset racks. Also no dead wood. I think if bowling goes to string pin, most will get used to it, just like all changes in this sport, pin boys to automatic pin setters, hand scoring to computerized scoring, going from plastic to urethane, to reactive with asymmetric cores, wood lanes to synthetic, hand oiling to oil machines, one handed to two handed. Changes are inevitable.

I actually like the mechanical aspect of the free fall pinsetter. its my interest in mechanical machines the got me interested in bowling to begin with. Id always choose free fall bowling over string pins any day

The fact that you're all laughing hysterically at the ridiculous pinfall and jumping around like children, speaks VOLUMES. It shows string pins for what they are: a kid's game that can't be possibly be taken seriously by anyone with genuine skills, as you all obviously have in abundance. Of course you're laughing... what other response could there possibly be? This is a joke.

Birthday parties? Fine. "Family fun center" establishments where no one cares about the score? Fine. But the fact that anyone would even consider competing at a high level on these pathetic machines, is incomprehensible to me. If this is the "future of bowling", then I'm quite done...

Yeah I have bowled on string pins and it was horrible 😭

Is there really no way to make a more cost efficient free fall machine?

When Gootz made that 3 6 7 9 10, there’s no way that 7 pin would’ve fallen with the way he hit it. The pin that hit the 7 would’ve normally hit the curtain and dropped straight down. Almost looked like the string pulled it back closer to the 7 to hit it

I just got back into bowling after being away for 12 years. Bought 8 new balls, new bags and accessories. Average 212 already. I have no problem quitting again.

Hi guys, here in the UK a lot of centre's have gone to strings and the problem we have found is if the lanes are dry or plays weird that's when you really start to see the difference in pin action you get some very strange leaves then .

I've actually read and heard there's a large difference. And it hurts the integrity of the sport, for sure. No question.

That was a fun video. Thanks for sharing. I would give the new string machines a shot but would rather stick with free fall pins if possible.

As an under 200 average player, I find I get around 10-20 points higher on strings; doesn't seem to affect my league captain much though who is 200 average.
