Walks into a room and sees a desk, with a note on it. Reads note. “Desk placed here by god”. Well, that mystery’s been cleared up!

“What happens in school when you try to cheat off of another kid during a test and it turns out he’s the dumb kid.” - Logicked. ROFLMAO! That may be the most insightful analogy I’ve heard regarding religious followers.

The desk analogy makes me laugh.

The man doesn't walk in and tell you he bought it at 4pm, you find a bit of paper that's been translated through several languages which tells you the desk was purchased several hundred years before the note was written.

And if you even think about questioning the validity of the bit of paper, people throw stones at you!

(Not mentioning that there are several other equally old notes all disagreeing on origin of the desk!).

I cast my influence-less vote for there to be a part 2.

"I might come back for a part 2, idk"

*slaps Part 1 in the title*

Dont fall for his conflating. He is using the layman's term for "theory" meaning a hypothesis or a "guess". The scientific model of a theory is the most complete explanation of an event.

Scientific Theory is the completion not the layman's term of the beginning of an idea.

I was hoping that a rabbi would at least have some new arguments. That was more like he had a checklist of the most commonly used bad arguments.

"scientists don't talk about the origins"
That is some smiting level bearing false witness.

"Nothing would ever be promoted to truth because truth implies there's nothing more to learn. That's why Science being Objective demands that everything be considered a theory, no matter how proven it seems to be."

I liked this rabbi. He at least wasn't nearly as dishonest about what science is as some other religious apologists who say crap like "science is a religion" lmao

"This comes off as pathetically desperate"
Yeah, I couldn't help but think while this rabbi was talking, "How incredibly sad."

Even if his entire book was absolutely true, it is worthless. "God did it" is a useless and unsatisfying answer to any question.

"I'd rather believe a lie than be unsure" that's his entire idea lol

Well, his arguments are incredible...as in, not credible!
Why would a man of his advanced years demean himself with the arguments of a cognitively stunted preteen?

Did someone sign up to Logicked's list just to dislike this video? As always, wonderful content :D Just what I need to keep me from studying time.

Yeah, sure, in his example he can just come in and give the explanation for how the table got there because he knows, but that's fundamentally different than what he's trying to imply.

For starters the Torah would be more like a note he left explaining how the table got there, but even then that doesn't really fit.

In reality though, it's more like the a previous tenant of the apartment from some point in the past left a note explaining what he was told by previous tenants about how the table got there and he included two similar but conflicting stories about how the table got there.

The fact that science never declares any "final word" is a feature; not a bug. I won't go into the psychological reasons why anyone would ever think the opposite - because errors of that scale are no longer philosophical problems, but psychological.

Commenting to tell YT that your content is promotion worthy. :) Really like your work, Logicked! You're probably one of my favorite skeptics, and I really like just having your vids on in the background as I draw or play videogames.

As someone raised as an Orthodox Jew (I am an atheist and an ethnic Jew), I'm happy to see more videos attacking the religious beliefs of Jews. The majority of my friend group are practicing Jews but most accept science. However, many don't and it's infuriating how they accept the word of rabbis who have never studied the science. I find it ironic that the creationist literature I've read from rabbis (yes, that's a thing) are all the same arguments that Christians and Muslims use. The rabbis always make it a point to show why those religions are nonsense.

Religion older that Islam and Christianity... they had more time. They have worse arguments
