I ran across this video how to replace this sprout come to find out it was not tub sprout it was the cold one. I went to Home Depot with cold water stem, it cost men less than &14.00. Thank you! I have a leaky valve and I didn’t know they had to be open to replace it. Makes 100% sense. Very thorough video👍🏼. I was instructed when putting the escutcheons on to put a small bead of caulk on the escutcheon and let it sit for a minute or two and then slide it on. Any excess should be wiped off but I can see how over time the putty might be better and easier to work with

Thanks for your video. My bathtub faucet has three handles and was made by Eljer. Several years ago I had to have a plumber come out in the past due to the handle on the hot water side not cutting the water off. I watched the plumber take it apart and replace the seat washer on the end of the stem and it fixed the leak. Everything was good until this past weekend when turning the hot water off the handle suddenly turned the water back on after almost having it off. I decided to try my hand at it this time and got the necessary supplies and replaced the washer myself. When turning the handle the water does cut off, but the handle still comes loose again and water flows and a little more twisting I was able to get the water back off. Is this a sign that the stem has gone bad as well?

Thank you for a very helpful video! One question — do you need to seal the inner part of the plate, where the plate’s donut hole and the stem meet? Seems like water could get in that way?

Thanks for the video. Mine is a 3 ways shower valve. The brand is, ”standard”. The only time I see the water leaks through the valve stem is when I turn on the water. Do you think I just need to replace the seal or also the seat ? Or the whole valve stem ? And is it the same design like any other brand or different ? Thanks

I replaced the cold water stem in my shower. But the problem im having now is when you shut the water off, the handle won’t stop spinning. And if you keep spinning it, the entire handle + stem will pull out of the wall. Is this just because I wasn’t using the socket wrenches and was simply using a wrench to tighten it?

This is the one i need to change out, mine is hard to turn all of a sudden ... i have to find what size it is nothing is leaking just getting harder to turn lately .. i changed it when i moved in here 10 years ago there was no hot water since the house was empty for a while when it was for sale . Great video, thank you. Please allow me one question. I have a 3 handle very old (1973) tub faucet. It seems it's made by Jameco. I want to replace/upgrade the three stems, especially the diverter which no longer works. So in your opinion which plumbing fixtures company stems i should use for this replacement. Or, would the internal old valve accept any upgrade kit. Thank you a lot for your time.

I learned stuff from you, thank you so much!! Before I watched this video I had created a hole where the middle knob was bc I stripped the copper pipe there and now I can’t put a new knob on it :(. The plumber said I have to replace the whole copper piping to get it replaced and that it’d cost $2700 😯. I don’t have that much money right now :/ is there something I can use to temporarily plug that hole so I can start taking showers here vs at my friends house 😬 😂

I have a very old 2 knob handle system with the diverter in the tub faucet. House was built in 1940. I traced my leaky faucet back to the hot water cartridge, but I can't figure out what brand it is. Any way to put a completely new type of valve and stem in there? At this point I'm thinking it's a better option to swap it all out for something modern than to keep trying to find old stuff and adapters for it. Thanks in advance!

What do you do if you accidentally threw out the old diverter and stems, and don't know who made them? How do you find out which ones to buy?

If I change out the seat in the pipe would that allow me to install a different stem from what I currently have or would I have to completely change out the entre valve for the tub/shower?

How do you know what kind of stem to get? So many shower valves aren't marked for manufacturer, much less model.
