Delta diverter shower knob repair

The center shower knob, the diverter, switches your water between the tub and the shower. This video deals with the Delta diverter shower knob repair.
I am working on reaching 1K subs on YouTube, so Sub, Like and comment if this helped you in any way.
More notes: The diverter is from Danco bought at Lowes for about $14. There is a shim that gives resistance while the knob turns, it VERY tight and the knob won't move, use the old "pad" from the worn broken part, to make the knob turn. I fixed this and then went back and decided to make a video, showing the problem with the sticking replacement knob. I hope this helped you out.

A small amount of water still comes through the tub spout but I can live with that. More info can be found by looking up reviews of the part number online.

Whew! I went to the hardware store and got a new one...I had the old one to match it up, since they had that Danco, I told the cashier to throw the old one away!! Boy did I screw up!! After putting the new one in(it was too thick). I watched this video and immediately drove back up and dug through her garbage can til I found my old one. Came back home and swapped that C shaped piece and reinstalled it...walla! Thanks so much for this help. Most guys were saying to sand it down a bit...

Been looking for this kind of stem. Both of my shower stem got fucked so I needed to buy a replacement but couldn't figure out which one. I even asked both Lowes and Home Depot employees and they were all clueless. Thanks my man. You saved me lots of moolah

By using the old top pad did the trick, the new one was too tight. Thanks for the tip!!

That was extremely helpful. I was trying to change the same fixture. I could not figure out the last step you used a needlenose to pull out. Thinking like many parts it needed to screw out some way. Thanks.

I found that thread tape on the threads the metal cylinder threads onto helped prevent any small leaks that may occur behind the wall.

Wow.. thanks for this post! I have a roman tub.. was able to replace the extender.. but could not pull the valve out.. tried with needle nose pliers.. did not work.. I didn't want to break the small stem on the valve, as it is burried pretty deep in the assembly.. so I screwed in the long screw from the extender.. then pulled up on the screw with a good yank and it came out.. I'm hoping once i put in the new valve inners (delta original valve and extender), that it's gonna work like a charm!!

Omg. Mine, Ace (store brand) -came from Pax hardware, is doing the same thing. The new piece does look thicker and it was hard to push it in. Last time I did it many years ago I didn't have any problems like I am now. First time I put the new on in it wasn't all the way back. I thought it was bc it was tight. I turned it on and the water went down in the wall to the ceiling.
