I'm glad Indonesian food is known by a foreigner. Actually there are many Indonesian foods that are vegan, but since the existence of seasoning/flavoring which contains animal broth, it's been difficult to find vegan food. It's basically in everything nowadays.

Wow am impressed!! I was waiting for you to reach for peanut butter / apple cider vinegar instead of real peanuts or tamarind, my apology 😂 Lotek is nicer than gado2 cuz it has more kick. Wundabar!

So for those who don't understand the difference, even though many Indonesian salad uses peanut sauce but they all taste slightly different with different texture and additives they also have different toppings inside. Like for example pecel also looks like this but lotek uses "kencur" (sand ginger according to google translate). Also the veggies will adjust regionally. Gado-gado, lotek, pecel, ketoprak and tahu tek to name a few all use peanut sauce but all tasted quite distinctly different, some is more savory, some uses fermented shrimp and fish, some uses coconut milk.

Makasih! Lotek and gado-gado are two of my mother's favorite foods! I hope you can make vegetarian/vegan "Gudeg" one day. 😄🙏

Edit: He's already done that LOL. I didn't know that 😅🙏

As an Indian I love this idea..the dressing seems a bit similar to peanut chutney which I love...I also love the idea of blanched veggies rather than eating them raw, and instead of tofu I think I will add paneer to it .thanks for sharing the recipe

I hate vegetables but lotek is an exception. For something that's just basically vegetables with peanut dressing it's stupid good. My go-to place for lotek near campus also add some yams for the dressing.

I usually only see foodie youtuber to make commonly known Indonesian dish (rendang, gado-gado, nasi goreng, indomie, etc). It's quite refreshing to see lotek here!

When I was a kid and my parents introduced me to vegetables for the very first time, I told them meat is better but they told me that my body will use more energy to digest and converting meat into strength (they meant energy) requires more strength then veggies. This is how they tricked me to eat more veggies.
