IMO, I think 8GB of RAM should be the minimum and 16GB should be the recommended. I've run into instances where I've encountered out of memory exceptions when I used a machine with 4GB and I wasn't doing anything too crazy. An example if you're running Windows 10: Having Visual Studio, Chrome, and SQL Server Management Studio open. Those apps will definitely give you trouble if you're running on only 4GB of RAM.

Tim is amazing.... My expectations are always exceeded.... I'm sure everyone would agree that Tim has been more than a teacher and a friend.... The remote connection he has with viewers is outstanding.

My specs didn't even match the minimum requirements but I have been watching Tech with Tim for almost a year and programming almost a year

I would honestly say 4 GB is too low for a minimum. Getting an 8 GB laptop isn't even expensive, it's 2020

I've learned programming on my very old laptop a 2008 model with 2gb of ram core 2 duo processor but still it was more than enough to have a good foundation on programming so if you have a low end pc,
relax and keep coding

I bought a laptop at $350, it has 4GB ram and core i5. Later I bought another 8GB ram at $35. It's better than some laptops that sell $900.

I would focus on getting a laptop with at least 16 GB of RAM and with NVMe drive (at least 256 GB) plus with good support for virtualization. NVMe drive is a huge advantage when it comes to overall experience and reponsiveness.

I started programming on my old HP laptop. Specs: i3 5th gen, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, 720p 15inch display.
Kinda gets the job done. Takes too long to launch any IDE. Youtube videos lag while in 1080p 60FPS, approx 1hr of battery life, and obviously, no fancy development work.

I'm planning to buy the HP Omen 15 with Rizen 5. I feel like it would be a good balance between price and performance. Plus it has a really good screen and minimalist design for a gaming laptop.

My laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad E585. It has 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" display. The only thing is the processor. It's a dual-core AMD Ryzen 3 @ 2.5GHz. It's great for learning Full Stack Web Development.

Amazing video! And it was very helpful for me because this days I am searching to buy a new laptop because my old hp laptop wants upgrade . Your tips helps me a lot because I want to buy something affordable and good for coding at the same time! Also I want to say that is very important to have 8gb of ram because if you want to keep this laptop for a long time, you will surely need it!

Awesome job, as all of your videos!

He is absolutely right about the processor! I tried to lean on a low end dual core all in one but it was painful so I got a used MacBook Pro 2011 13inch i7 16gb ram 1tb ssd and it is AMAZING for the price i paid. I am typing this from it. However, I decided to get into machine learning so I got a desktop with the ryzen 7 2700X and RTX 2060 Super. Great machines.

Finally someone who says 4 gigs of ram is enough, all I have seen is people shitting about how you can't open a chrome tab in 8 gigs of ram.(which is obliviously very wrong). If you have some money though, I'll suggest buying 8 gigs to have a very comfortable environment.
