What to Look for in a Special Occasion Little Black Dress | Ten-Item Capsule Wardrobe

Ok, so my little black dress is actually dark blue... but I discuss this in today's video :) I'm sharing all of the qualities you should look for in a darker special occasion dress. I believe all women should own one "little black dress" or a dark dress for various evening or more somber occasions. This will fit into the "extras" of your ten-item wardrobe and, if chosen correctly, should last you for years.

My little black dress finally bit the dust this past winter. It was made from a cheap $5 black bedsheet (originally intended it to just be a test to check for the fit of the pattern) and I got no end of compliments every time I wore it. Just shows that a proper fit, accessories and shoes can make even a bedsheet dress look chic! Your dress is beautiful!

Beautiful. The older I get the more I think black looks too harsh on me. I loved black dresses when I was young but black can age a mature lady. I'm in my early 60s. Instead of black now I look for the darkest blue, a midnight blue. Your dress is perfect for you!!

I found a beautiful, modest, black pencil dress at a second hand store yesterday for $11.99. It has a textured, heavy-weight fabric and fits me perfectly. I have plenty of accessories go with it depending on the occasion. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have found such a great dress for such a great price! They really can be found at any price point.

I am 65 years old now. 40 years ago I spent $150 (a huge sum of money back then) and bought a black, slightly cowl-necked, long-sleeved belted dress which comes a bit below the knee. I loved that dress when I bought it, I still do and I still wear it on occasion. I wish I could say that I have a 10 item capsule wardrobe- I love the concept, but I just haven't been able to get there yet. I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you for them!

I bought my classic shift LBD unexpectedly at a thrift shop. It's a perfect fit and cost me $8. It doesn't have to be expensive to be classy and chic. ~smile~

That dress looks so classy and elegant. I can't believe it's machine washable! I have several dresses I wear in my day to day life that are dry clean only. I just use Dryel and it seems to work well.

That dress is beautiful. The neckline is so unique. This dress is simple enough to be very versatile, but the sheer insets elevate it beyond the ordinary. I wish I had an upcoming occasion to justify my purchasing it.

I love this dress on you, love the blue. I’m very fair, I can wear black but I always feel better in a dark navy. The length is perfect. Your advice on staying away from trends is right on. I would wear a slip or choose a dress without the peek a boo option for myself, but this is lovely on you. 👍
