The SpaceX Starlink Generation 3 Kit (Starlink 3rd Gen Router + Dish) is now available for anyone to purchase without an invite. Today I hope to help you decide if the SpaceX Starlink Gen 2 or the brand-new Starlink Gen 3 is right for your needs.

The SpaceX Starlink Gen 3 Router and dish provide faster speeds, more capacity, better efficiency, great performance, and even two built-in ethernet port(s) BUT ... let's analyze the BUT... ;)

Here are my favorite "BETTER" WiFi 6/6E AX Routers to replace the Starlink altogether if you would rather go that route!

I purchased the Gen 3 and replaced the Gen 2 - there is no difference whatsoever in download/upload speeds.

I'm a new customer, my V3 kit shipped yesterday and it is on Residential Service. One significant detail you left out is the V3 dish has 110 degree viewing angle versus the V2 100 degree viewing angle.

Agreed on the rotation. I’ve noticed mine changing a fair amount and would hate to have to manually move it. Mine has been seriously flawless since I installed it.

My gen 3 is great . I unboxed it, laid it on the ground pointing north and it connected instantly. Getting 300 mbps / 25 upload .
I can move the dish to mow and then just set it back down and it connects instantly every time . Anyone that says they need to move the gen3 around manually to get to connect doesn’t know their directions.

Have the Gen 1 “residential” for a year or so and just purchased the Gen 2 (Roam) for my RV travel. There are LOTs of mounting options (Pole, etc.) for the Gen 2 and I won’t have to mess with adjusting the Gen 3 for signal. I just park my RV, extend the pole with my Gen 2 on top and let the actuator do its thing. Too easy!

Thank you for these videos. I was all excited when I heard about the Gen3 and was going to run out and buy it. Your info has convinced me to keep the Gen2 and wait to see what happens down the road. My fear of heights was the biggest deciding factor.

I'm happy with the ver 2 here in NZ in bypass mode using my own router and wifi6 access point gigabit wifi speeds.
I'm steaming this video in 4k and did a speed test while watching it and got a ping of 21ms and 274.30Mbps down and 20.23Mbps up.
I'm happy as a schoolboy in a sweet shop with Starlink.

They finally brought fiber out to my street and I’m getting 1gb installed tomorrow. Now I trying to decide if it’s worth selling my less than a year old Gen 2 or just keep it for backup and switch to RV subscription to have as a backup. I’m paying $120/mo as well.

Thanks. Sticking with my G2 for Roaming. I use it on my boat and would definitely not want to be constantly repositioning a G3 as I swing around on anchor. I don't use it underway.

Early indications don't look good. I am a Starlink installer and just did my first generation 3 and it was much more difficult to install. I have done around 10 gen 2 installs. So far gen 3 slower than every gen 2 I have ever seen.

Would like to see a video using the Gen 2 dish with a Gen 3 router. I am still using Gen 2 with a Deco mesh (3 units) but not in bypass mode. Still averaging 70-120 down and 5-25 up. Happy for the most part Keep up the good work! Merry Christmas!

I completely understand that the manual rotation may be painful, probably the reason why it is available only for roam plan. On the other hand, since the dish is larger, maybe it doesn't need to be rotated once we do initial setup. What do you think?

I live in Wisconsin. Lots of ice and snow. I have my dish strapped to the chimney (on a treated painted 2x4 on a starlink pole) on the second floor and the roof is around a 60 degree angle. It's around 45 feet up in the air....lots of trees. Hell no am I going up there in winter to mess with a dish. It's a terrible thing to do on a good day. In the summer the shingles are like 125 degrees. Just incase your wondering...no that chimney is no longer used we have a second one for that.

I'm a new customer and will be using Starlink for camping and outdoors, my only concern is that the new 3rd gen doesn't have an actuator and its a hassle to get in and out my RV/tent to aim to get a better signal. Wonder why they reverse the tech.

I live in a very rural area in Nebraska, just moved in and looking for internet service, Starlink seems to be the only choice. The house is fairly large 5200 sq ft. Three stories. What do you experts recommend, to get the best coverage throughout the house. The thrid floor is guest rooms, so not too concerned with great coverage up there, but the main level and basement need it the most.

Can you purchase a gen 3 router without having to buy a new dish

Starlink Gen 3 standard kits will not include the SpaceX stickers that were included in the Gen 2 standard kits.
I personally didn't understand why stickers came in the kit, but they are now history.

I'm currently in Mazatlan Mexico, my dish is 24 feet upon a pole, competing with palm trees for some sky, and once up there it boots, auto aligns and it's flawless. I have the Ethernet dongle and a WiFi 6 router with Qos, so I'm set, no need or desire to upgrade or in this case "downgrade" at this point. a couple years from now, when Elon has many more birds in the sky, auto align will be less important I'm sure, till then I'll keep what works for me...
