corlys is right tho 🤷 history doesn't remember blood. biological or not, the kids were still born in rhaenyra and laenors marriage and were both raised as velarions. might as well pretend they are and let them continue the bloodline, instead of giving driftmark to the girls and their future husbands. sad to get rid of the platinum wigs, but at least their name will not die.

It always killed me how no matter which way it turned, Rhaenyra was always made the bad guy simply because she was a woman.
Laenor was gay AF. EVERYONE knew. It wasn't a secret, yet Rhaenyra was a who®e bc she produced heirs the best way she could.

I think the main reason Coryls insisted on making Luke his heir was because of their conversation during Laenor’s funeral. Luke knew that becoming the Lord of Driftmark would lead to a lot of death and told Coryls that. I think this compassion for other people is the reason why Coryls wanted Luke as heir.

History remembers names, he’s so right. Look at world history. Louise XIV and Philip I were more likely then not bastards but they are remembered as some of the greatest.

In the books, I don’t think the Velaryons were depicted with dark skin (absolutely nothing wrong with that tho). But in the show, it’s more painfully obvious that Rhaenyra’s sons are not Velaryons because they are not dark skinned like Laenor and they don’t even have the blonde white hair from either parents. And then when you compare them to Daemon and Laena’s daughters, its impossible to deny it.

Corlys acepto a los hijos de rhaenyra, apesar de que no eran sus nietos biologicos porque sabia que su hijo leanor los amaba como suyos, eran velaryon adoptados

So perfect example of how the race swap AND the changing of Rhaenys hair color breaks this part of the story.... In the books, Rhaenys's hair is black, the same color as her "grandsons". This give Corlys and Viserys plausible deniability that the boys are legitimate heirs. Corlys has other members of his family vying to be the heir, and once that position is officially vacant, there will be a chaotic power struggle among the family. If he ignores the possible bastard status of the boys, he can maintaining his lineage by betrothing them to his true born grand daughters, the family stays unified, and he doesn't piss off the king (who has the ability to strip him and his family of their lands and titles). It's logical and in his best interest. But make him black and his wife blonde, and you have to make his reasons for doing what he does: "History remembers names."

Orys Baratheon was supposed to be the bastard half brother of Aegon the Conqueror. Nobody gives two shits whether he was a bastard or not today.

News flash - Alyssa Velayron was Jaehaerys’ mother, meaning Rhaenyra does in fact have Velayron blood and so do her kids

She really managed to call him out on all his bullshit quite well in this scene

That's why Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella are Baratheons

Will Rhaenyra ever address the elephant in the room to Rhaenys and Corlys? Everyone knows her children are bastards. In the books it may have been easier to pass her bastards off as legitimate with the Velaryans not being people of color. (Ofc we cool with that) I think it’s actually a good addition to the show. It makes it so much more obvious that they aren’t legitimate. With that being said, Rhaenyra has to wonder why Corlys and Rhaenys would side to her claim with her children not being of Laenors blood and being accused of having part of Laenor’s “death”. We as the audience know, of course, that Corlys believes that history only remembers names not blood. Secondly, that Rhaenys believes Rhaenyra shows restraint against war. But Rhaenyra knows none of that. She must wonder why they don’t address her children being bastards or side with the greens.

She is both right and wrong here. She is right in that what she is saying is truthful. But there is no way he could pass over the sons of the crown princess and heir to the throne without inviting disaster to Driftmark.

Corlys' biggest mistake is he did not have an honest discussion and then plan out how Laenor was going to mate with Raenreys.

He certainly would not have been the first gay highborn male who would be required to mate to maintain their House and further the family line. Surely there must have been some sort of meister potion or whatever that could momentarily turn Laenor on to busting in a female.

He is in a very tough position. Viserys says Rhaenyra’s children are not bastards and Laenor publicly claimed them. And mind you, in the book they very well may have been Laenor’s so that’s part of the motivation there and ofc it wouldn’t make sense for the Corlys story arc to be completely changed from the book. If Corlys names his daughter heir, this causes several problem. 1. Their specific kingdom skips over female rulers. He could attempt to change the law but that also would be difficult. 2. Naming them means publicly calling Rhaenyra’s children bastards. He deeply cares about them and doesn’t want to see them hurt. This also would upset Viserys and harm might come his and his wife’s way for saying this. 3. Daemon is the father of the girls. I don’t think he’d force them not to take the crown or anything, but he may encourage them to talk Corlys out of it. Then, if Corlys names his brother, well he’s almost certainly going to die because he doesn’t know how to be as eloquent as Corlys and the Targaryens would take any opportunity to overthrow him.

Oh, history remembers blood, all right. Even 475 years later, a lot of people remember all the children sired by Henry VIII, even the bastards. Not everyone, of course, but any Anglophile that reads about the history of the British monarchy knows all that stuff.

every1 always says corlys was thirsty for the throne but i feel this conversation proves that rhaenys was just as desperate to get her blood on the throne. after all she is the 1 that lost at the great council not corlys.
