For those who don’t know what dr nye is taking about when he talks about the Wyoming, basically the Wyoming was the largest wooden ship ever made, it was built in 1909, it built for transporting cargo, the problems it faced was its hull leaked due to twisting, the reason why it twisted was because of its size, you see once a ship gets to a certain size it(not sure how big) it goes through the waves opposed to over the waves, this would cause stress to the middle of the ship and if it wasn’t strong enough it would twist at the centre, the maximum size of a practical wooden ship is 100m otherwise the ship would twist, the Wyoming would only be used in very certain conditions so it wouldn’t twist and sink but it was caught in a storm and sank with everyone on board getting killed and going 75 feet under the sea
