Looks like there's some serious demand for L1Linux content Wendel :D :D :D

I think Wendell tracks my search history and makes videos on whatever problem I can't figure out at the time

Knowing how to use grub2 is a dark art.

Hey Wendel, long time watcher here, love your content. Please, please, please do a vid on installing arch with lvm (including raid and cache) and luks encryption with multiple drives on mbr or even efi. It feels like I've been banging my head against a brick wall for over a week now trying this. The arch wiki doesn't fully describe the process and neither does any online tutorial I've looked at so far.

I remember those days when I had a sata HDD but my pendrive was broke. But I needed my distro hopping fix. So I used those cryptic chain loading grub commands to boot the image from a partition in my HDD. I have since controlled my hopping addictions.

I like it minimalistic: exactly 1 primary MBR partition of ext4, properly aligned on my internal SSD.
No swap. No EFI/fat32 cockamamie. System boots in 1.2s—1.3s from BIOS to KDE/Plasma with network (static IPv4, systemd-networkd).
No need to even have a single fstab entry anymore because GRUB2 provides my kernel with the correct combo of BOOT_IMAGE, root and rootflags arguments.
Doing a backup is as easy as copying one partition, which I do monthly.

Hi Wendal! Do you have a script when you do this kind of video? If so, do you weight it yourself?

Could you do the same with lvm? If i remember correctly it uses md underneath, in my experience it has less trouble with disk if for whatever reason the swap places, and it gives you a lot of flexibility, especially as you said, if you distro hop you can make extend and reduce the raid partitions. I would love to know if i am wrong in what and why.

RAID, RAID against the dying of the (RGB) light...

Or you can use the GUI to set up the raid with the minimal installer using manual partitioning. Easy.

If ubuntu server supports this better then just use that and install the ubuntu-desktop meta package after the initial install. Also ubuntu server uses the text based installer you were asking for.
