I mean Yangchen even told him in the last episodes that the avatar could never truly detach themselves from the world because their duty is to the world. So no, he would never be able to fly like Zaheer

I think Aang’s connection with Toph, Sokka, Zuko, Momo, and Suki is way deeper than Zaheer had with Ghazan and Ming Hua. To Zaheer, they were probably just seen as colleagues, but Team Avatar were Aang’s closest friends

nah, he'd ever be able to fly. The way he was taught, he'd care too much about the world even if katara and appa died. They will still mean so mcuh for him to let go of everything, besides, team avatar also meant more than Zaheer's team meant to him, Zaheer sees them only as people who had the same ideals, not friends. It'd be an insult to Aang to say them were the same.

yeah i dont think this comparison makes Sense. Sokka was like a Brother to him and Toph like a Sister. for Zaheer the other two were just Tools to reach his Goal not Friends. not to mention he had also still Momo. so there were still enough People who he cared enough about to not being able to learn to fly.

theres still the issue of his feelings of loss of the air nomads grief is still a form of attachment and one aang never fully let go of.

In the green crystal cave (where azula killed him) Aang flies. He literally releases the last thing binding him to this world (The exact way air benders in the past flew), which was katara, and began rising out of the crystal chamber he made. Not projecting himself, just flying. It fits the rules and lore. Aang was the first airbender we saw raw dog flight.

he did fly, in the crossroads of destiny when he entered the avatar state he flyed without his air bubble around him. just like zaheer he let go his feelings for katara and did it (not to mention that he was struct by lightning 2 seconds later)

in the book 2 finale when aang was about to gain control over the avatar state, we literally see him levitating off the ground- no air sphere or nothin', at least until azula shot him down

Avatar can fly in "Avatar spirit" which means past avatars did fly before aang
So well past avatars also have that spiritual attachment, basically aang could too if he got no physical attachments
(i mean katara dont even let aang to be in avatar spirit for 3 seconds)
