Director & Cast Q&A at the RIO Wed Feb 13 - A preview of a very special British film which has been steadily accumulating plaudits worldwide - The Grand Jury Prize (Best Film) and the Critics Prize at the prestigious Dinard Film Festival, as well as the Best Film prize at the Rome Film Festival and Best Performance at the Edinburgh International Film Festival shared by Liv Hill and Sinead Matthews.
Between being bullied at school, put upon by her overbearing boss at the local amusement arcade and having to
look after her younger brother, sister and manic-depressive mother, life isn’t easy for 15 year-old Sarah Taylor. However, when Sarah’s drama teacher channels her ferocious and volatile energies in to a stand-up
comedy routine for the graduation showcase, Sarah discovers that she may have a hidden talent..
First-time feature film director (and Dalston resident) James Gardner paints a dark and hard-edged picture of modern life, and, in newcomer Liv Hill, he uncovers a riveting talent. Her fiercely evocative and vulnerable depiction of Sarah delivers a truly remarkable insight into a young woman living a life far beyond her years. Or as Village Voice put it: ‘Her name is Liv Hill, and, holy shit, you’ll want to remember it.…fierce, bitter, funny, and heartbreaking.’
Following the screening, we are delighted to welcome director James Gardner and members of the cast for a Q&A.
