Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari 2600) AVGN Episode segment

The reason to divide some episodes into clips is because, in many episodes AVGN reviews a compilation of games, and sometimes a review will get lost in the mix. Many people still ask James to review Shaq Fu, even though that was done all the way back in 2007 for the Christmas episode "An Angry Nerd Christmas Carol: Part 2". Hopefully, these clips will make finding certain AVGN game reviews easier to find. #mikematei #retro #retrogaming #gameplay #playthrough #livestream #review #nes #snes #matei

Like most adventure games on the Atari 2600, Raiders of the Lost Ark required the player to read the instruction manual to play the game properly. It delivers a lot of info and several tips on how to play, what some of the items do, how to get around, etc.

Without it, the game is very cryptic and frustrating. With it, it's very fun and rewarding.

It took me months to figure this game out when I was 9. I think that's a pretty good value, and the process of figuring it out along the way was quite an adventure, with the kind of highs and lows that are pretty rare for an Atari 2600 game. I think it was pretty well done, considering the limitations of the platform.

And people wonder why games are easier now a days.

YouTube is the closest thing we will ever have to a time machine

im pretty sure these older games had manuals with them that explained what everything was and stuff. hard to play them without all the original packaging, etc.

This video review is hilarious! I played this game for hours on end as a kid trying to beat it. Even wrote a letter to Atari, and got a letter back but without the answer (I bet that letter is worth something now). Eventually I somehow figured it out.

The game that introduced a sense of community among gamers, having to share their discoveries and read the manual as well as Atari Power to finish the adventure. 5 years before Zelda ripped it off, folks.

READ the instruction manual! I was 12 when this came out and only got stumped when I had to find the shovel and learn how to get to the Ark's location. My friend back then would call some hotline Atari had at the time for hints. But, we beat the game

I did eventually beat this game. But it took me like 3 years of
guessing at the meaning of cryptic symbols.
Gave me a thrill at finding the ark that modern games don't give tho...

LOVED playing this game! Beat it countless times. Anyone else use the parachute to get into that hole under the tree branch? It wasn't very rewarding. Lol.

This is so funny!!!  Raiders of the Lost Ark on Atari 2600 was totally like that!  It was so hard and confusing.

Yup. Had no idea about using a second controller. No wonder I'd play for ten minutes and be done
