I'd never used the specter armor before doing my latest mage playthrough, but now that I have I've got to say it is one of the most broken sets in the entire game, it's like having the vampire knives and the scourge of the corruptor built into your armor. It's so powerful that in some ways I almost felt like I was downgrading when I moved on to the nebula armor

Weapons you might also want:

Rainbow rod from twins (not sure if it was mentioned)
Razorblade typhoon and bubble gun from Duke Fishtron (recommended spectre armor)
A lot of weapons from the dungeon

If you're having problems with Plantera use the Rainbow Rod for the first phase while circling around her.
For the second phase you can use the Unholy Trident which is a drop from red devil in the underworld or the venom staff.
Use regeneration swiftness ironskin mana regen and power with endurance and rage/wraith potion.
For more weapon recomendations you can use:
Razorblade Typhoon (%20 drop from Duke Fishron)
Stellar Tune (%2 drop from EoL)
And Pre-Golem you can get the Inferno Fork and Magnet Sphere from dungeon drops

Playing terraria for the first time and I’m loving your videos! They’re helping out a lot. Playing mage for my first run (and of course the server I’m in is expert so it’s a trial by fire!) and just got to pre plantera. Just managed to get the venom staff too, so progress has been good!

This worked very well for me make sure you are reforging all of your stuff to the best, getting every single accesory (yes terraspark and ankh shield) get rainbow rod, golden shower, and venom staff, and most importantly make a pretty large arena and maybe consider adding an osogof tunnel at the bottom middle! (also if you do it right you can put your nurse there incase you get low)

With Golem, I actually found a Staff Of Earth or whatever it’s called works really really well. Just stand to the side of him after he spawns and shoot through both his arms. Then you can switch to another more single target weapon

Maybe it’s just me, but I like to farm the Empress of Light for the Stellar Tune after defeating Plantera. (Or Golem, but usually I have the Razorblade Typhoon after Plantera already, which is what I use for the fight.) Even though the Stellar Tune is really rare, it’s not a bad investment. It shreds the pillars and does good DPS on moon lord.

Also, using heart lanterns and campfires to illuminate the arena helps by adding additional health boosts.
