Ukraine president Volodimir Zelenskyy insists domestic forces are still in control of Kyiv as the Russian bombardment of the capital continues.
The sounds of huge explosions were periodically heard early Saturday in Kyiv.
Earlier Zelensky posted a self-shot video of himself on Twitter walking around the streets of Kyiv.
In it he denied he has told the army to lay down its arms, saying that Ukraine will defend itself against the Russian invasion.
Zelensky said late Friday that Russia will try to “storm” the capital Saturday and he vowed to resist, according to media reports.
Russia will use “all available forces to break the resistance. Despicably, cruelly, and inhumanly,” he said in a video message on Facebook, according to Ukraine’s official news agency Ukrinform.
Russia's military intervention in Ukraine entered its third day Saturday, with the latest reports indicating that Russian troops were heading toward the capital, Kyiv, from several directions.
