Using Modal Mixture for Dreamy and Epic Melodies/Leads [MUSIC THEORY]

preview_player
Показать описание

Modal Mixture is the use of multiple scales that share a common tonal center. Traditionally, we only use modes of the Major Scale but in the jam track video that accompanies this, I include other non-modal options as well.

Even if some of this stuff is too advanced for you, I encourage you to turn on the track and play along with the notes on the screen- even simple melodies and movements can sound very pleasing over this chord progression.

I played guitar for over 15 years, and did my best to learn by ear. I got so good at one point I was able to transcribe solos from dimebag Darrell randy Rhodes by ear. But I could never tell you much about music theory, modal interchange or anything like that. I always had my own theories about how things worked, and this video really just blew me away. How did I never venture out? Learn this stuff at a younger age? I always thought music theory was too expensive growing up or that everything that I wanted to learn would eventually come to me either through practicing or watching old guitar tutorials on how to play.

The intro, the lesson and the overall "you've GOT to experiment with it" attitude... Goddamn. Love this video so very much

Dude! You topped all your amazing lessons. This is hands down your best lesson. There's so much to learn here. Your ability to articulate and simplify all of this - is just incredible. Truly a great lesson. Any musician should watch this.

I've learned more about music from two months of watching this channel than I have in almost 20 years of being alive.

One of the things I love most about music is that even after 30+ years playing, I can stumble onto something that I haven't used that much and it makes me excited to do some more writing & improvising. Thanks for the cool vid!

I used to teach music at a community college. I thought I was a pretty studly instructor. But you, my friend, are the real deal. I learn so much from you, and I love your friendly, clear presentation style. As other have said, "Please never stop making these videos!"

AWESOME! Love the chromatic bend that makes the changes. Hard to improv with it unless you practice it a million times.

I love using Locrian to enter leads.
Ex: if you're in Am, use the B Locrian arpeggio (B-D-F-A-B) to start a lead run. It has a unique sound.

I think that first solo was your best of the lessons. Convinced me to pay close attention to the lesson.
