With todays news of Megascans going paid behind the Fab store I know a lot of people are going to panic but we do have some free solutions still we can use.

I understand why Megascans is no longer free and the prices are reasonable. The problem is that it will make onboarding new users to Unreal a lot harder. Megascans is a way for new users to quickly get up and running creating without having to worry about asset quality or price.

It makes sense to keep the old content free while considering a paid version for new scans. However, it would be great if everything could stay free. I’m sure there are other ways to generate revenue, and many people, like me, might find it tough to pay.

Note that the stuff you download from quixel bridge are just flat files on disk living in the preferences library folder. If you setup your own json files and folders there you can side load any existing or custom content you have and use bridge as an asset viewer. This includes metahumans too. We do this for our in house assets just make it convenient for artists to view assets from bridge and load into the program of their choice.

Obviously would like it all to continue to be free but I wish they at least gave us the option for a subscription to keep access to the whole library. I like to play around with different options and having to buy it piecemeal is going to limit that quite a bit.

UE Hobbyist / Retired and living on a budget. Sure, 99-cents for a Decal or Twig - fine. I don't know about you but it's not like I know EXACTLY what I want/need when I do a scene, so maybe I'm looking for a mossy boulder, but the one I bought just looks TOO mossy in my scene, so I grab another. That's not looking right either, cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching. You get the idea.
I guess I'll just have to live with whatever scraps they decide to make FREE and shoot my scenes with a long lens and lots of thick motion blur... (is that supposed to be a Rock or a Car?)

The most painfull will be the Surfaces library, i remember testing - downloading 50 Carpet-marble surfaces before to choice only one or 2. Now i will need to buy 50 to use 1 or 2 sick. like buying a 10cm square sample, and then say no, it's not okay on 30m square

this kindof sucks, this could honestly hurt people like myself who wants to learn environmental creation within ue5 for making games with down the road with ue5. This could probably push people away. But glad stuff like RealityScan still exists though as our secondary option for now. which lightens things up a bit.
