Listen Speak and Interrupt

Показать описание
Hello everyone! On behalf of Lea Associates, we're excited to invite you to participate in a unique research study:
Have you ever been interrupted? Have you ever interrupted someone else?
We believe listening and speaking are essential for healthy relationships. So, can we interrupt others without harming our connections? Simply put, better listening and thoughtful interrupting lead to stronger relationships.
Why Interruptions Matter
Our hypothesis is that the impact of an interruption depends on multiple factors—timing, intent, and the nature of your relationship with the person involved. Interruptions can feel supportive or disruptive, depending on these elements, which is why we’re diving deep to understand these behaviors.
Sometimes, interruptions are necessary to address group needs. For example, when someone monopolizes a meeting, we might need to interject with: “In the interest of time, let’s set up another meeting to discuss this topic.”
Understanding the Interruption Spectrum
The diagram on this slide shows a spectrum of interruption types:
On the left: Antisocial interruptions, where the interrupted party feels dominated, overpowered, or silenced.
On the right: Pro-social interruptions, which are appreciated and often clarify or guide the conversation. These are sometimes situationally necessary.
In between: A range of social interruptions with varying impacts.
Understanding this spectrum aids our growth as communicators, helping us grasp the timing and effects of interruptions so we can build trusting, collaborative relationships.
