Thank you for the tutorial. Helpful tip: Glue a piece of batting over the prongs of the magnetic snap and then fuse the outer fabric to the foam. Those prongs will wear through that cotton very quickly.

Would have loved to see you do the binding. That's the part I was most curious about how to do and how to finish on the ends.

I wish she would have shown how to bind the bag, too. Great video. I will be making this bag. I bought the pattern. Thanks Misty 😊

I just received this pattern today. I am a novice when it comes to bag making. I love how concise the instructions are. But after reading them, I came to YT to see if there was a tutorial. Your tutorial shows me visually and verbally, and that is a great way for me to learn, alongside written instructions. Thank you.

I just made this bag. It was actually pretty easy. I bought the patter but this video made it all make perfect sense. The only are struggle I had was with sewing the binding on. The throat on my machine isn’t really big so sewing the straps on was a struggle as well. Next time I make it I will try sewing the straps on before putting it together. Still this big was amazing, it is a secret Santa exchange gift.

I like those nice wide straps. I tend to overload my bags with everything in the sewing room, then the narrower straps cut into my shoulder from the weight. Wider straps distribute the weight so they don’t cut in so much. I know, take less stuff. But then there’s always something I need but didn’t bring! 😊

It’s 3:10 pm in San Antonio TX! This bag is awesome and I’m going to make this bag for my sister who crochets. Some of the interior pocket areas will be adjusted for her crochet hooks, patterns, etc. And, of course I’m going to make this for me as well! A little tip—after sewing the inside pockets together and before top stitching, press the seam open using steam if necessary. Fold together and press again. You won’t need to roll the seam-it will lay flat for topstitching!

Misty, I am called "the bag lady" because I sew so many bags. I just ordered the pattern and I will make several bags, one for me and several to give as gifts. I love all your tutorials!

I love this bag! Thank you for the tutorial! However, I wish you would have shown how to do the outside binding! You didn’t say how much material to use or how to put it on. I hope you can do a follow up on a few of the things everyone is suggesting! Thank you!

Wonderful tutorial, Misty. I hope I have time to make one in the next couple of days. I can’t wait to use one of my pretty zips.

Thank you so much for this tutorial Misty. My sister-in-law and I belong to a Craft Group at our Church where we make goods to sell at Community Fairs 3 - 4 times per year to raise money for Charity. I made myself a large tote bag for carrying fabrics and in progress Quilts plus another Block Carrier bag with large side pockets (1 for my Oliso folding Cutting Mat, the other for carrying my Longer and/or Larger Rulers. There's also divided pockets inside). These bags are much admired by the Craft Group ladies - the exteriors are patchwork. S-i-Law said she'd love a knitting bag made along similar lines and you have provided the perfect bag. The large zip pocket internal bag is perfect for storing knitting needles etc. and the snap-fastened section is perfect for patterns and the like. Thank you again.

Very nicely done. However for those of us who are not familiar with binding bags this way it would be nice to have a tutorial on this. Do you have any links demonstrating this method?

I made this bag and will use it so much! I am also tall, so the long straps are great! I visited MSQC in the summer a few years ago and had the last souvenir line in a fat quarter pack. I made a scrappy version and it turned out so cute! I wish I could share a picture here!

5:15 After ironing in the 2nd fabric, before quilting, put a small square of painters tape over the snap to remember not to quilt there. When I quilt I get in a zone and would forget to pay attention! Or I'd pre-mark the quilting pattern to make sure I avoided the magnetic snap. 💖🌞🌵😷

I recommend double stitching the bottom seams and side seams of the tote for extra reinforcement, especially if you plan to use heavy objects in the tote. It will last longer and hold its shape better. I agree with others that a zipper close for the top of the tote would also be helpful. Good tutorial!

Thank u so much for this video. I’m making a tote very similar to yours but I use a brown paper bag. I was praying to find something similar to it so I could attach the bottom without the bulk.
