I've tried to transition to primarily using a hawk and trowel but I don't think I do enough to ever really get comfortable with it so I'm sticking with knife and pan or knife and hawk for most things. It's just so much more user friendly for the occasional taper/finisher.

for the people outside of australia (US/CANIDA) we dont use pre mix base coat in aus, we mix the mud ourselves, , so we can gauge how thick or thin we want it by adding more of less water, thats why it doesnt go everywhere when we apply it
