How to Make NVIDIA the Default Graphics Card on Windows 11

Learn how to Switch from Intel HD integrated graphics to make NVIDIA the default dedicated Graphics Card. It is important to keep in mind that AMD has integrated graphics as well -- AMD Vega, for example

You can do this by using the the NVIDIA Control Panel, and you can also do this by using by making specific apps to use
your NVIDIA discrete GPU by default when they are running.

When changing the NVIDIA Control Panel Settings, focus on the 3D settings sections. From there, go to where it says to manage 3D settings and to configure surround, physx. Each of these categories will give you an option to make your NVIDIA graphics card the default.

The second option is assigning specific apps to use your Graphics card. If you go to the graphics settings via the Settings App, you can easily do this.
Like the NVIDIA Control Panel, you will have the option to let your operating system choose, the option to use the integrated graphics, and the option to use the dedicated GPU.

This works for laptops because MS decided to take control and make Nvidia Optimus + AMD switchable graphics redundant, that's great and all but how do you get the same functionality on a desktop? Do you connect the monitor to the dGPU and have certain applications run off of the iGPU by choosing power save graphics settings on a per app basis? As I understand it you can't have the monitor connected to the iGPU output on the back of the motherboard.

UPDATE: For those wondering how Win10 and WIn11 handles your iGPU+dGPU on desktop. I found it out on my with proper testing. if you connect monitor to the iGPU i.e back of the motherboard you can still have games or other heavy application run off of the dGPU explicitly via the iGPU/dGPU assignment option as shown in this video. The dGPU's video output is sent over PCIE to the iGPU's display controllers to be outputted via motherboard display outs.

Connecting to iGPU this way results in some overheard for the dGPU for max fps and some smaller losses in average fps with hardly any losses in 1% lows. Your idle power from dgpu will go down to its absolute minimum which is good since iGPUs can easily handle browsers and other low load tasks perfectly along with video play back. Those who have Radeon graphics can continue to enjoy FreeSync something you cannot do on Intel iGPUs. Am on AM5 now.

Hello. I have AMD intergraded and Nvidia RTX dedicated GPU, but for some reason in games like games that supports RT/DLSS for e.g Shadow of the tomb raider, the Ray Tracing and DLSS is not available/supported! why is that?, what should i do to fix this?
