No Jon wants freedom, Jon wants to to north with the free folk and that’s exactly what happens.

This is the scene I remind people of when they think Jon's fait is unfair. Its exactly what he wanted. Tormund was right, Jon belonged with them, he was happier with them. In the end he left the Night's watch and headed off with the free folk. He was never intended to be king. All three remaining Starks ended up with a life they were happiest with
