A good suggestion on archiving. Has optical degradation ever crossed your mind or the fact that at that point the videos are so out of date that it would not matter?

I store most of my files on a RAID 5 or RAID 1 array on a NAS and having 8-12TB of data allows me to archive files just on the NAS or to an external hard drive.
