NATO observes an "Open door Policy" for all EUROPEAN states with the objective of secuirity of North Atlantic region. Other criteria for membership involves political, economic and military commitments as:
1. Functioning democracy based on market economy
2. Ability to resolve commitments peacefully
3. Commitments towards minority
4. ability and willingness to contribute military operations.

According to article - 10 of NATO only European Countries With certain creteria (democracy, minority rights, market economy, military contribution ) are opt to join in the open door policy of NATO .


Art - 13 of the treaty states that any country wish to withdraw from NATO is free of their own choise .
