Sacred Tradition has five components: the Magisterium (the teaching function of the Catholic Church, stressed in the Roman Catholic Church); the Liturgy (our public worship, including the sacraments and the Liturgy of the Hours, stressed in the particular Eastern Catholic Churches), the sensus fidelium ( the common Faith held by all faithful Catholics); the Church Councils (meetings by the Catholic bishops to discuss matters important to the Faith); the Church Fathers and Doctors of the Church (their writings advance the Church's understanding about some aspect of the Faith. The Apostolic Fathers learned the Faith from one or more of the Apostles). The Sacred Tradition, in union with Sacred Scripture, comprise the Deposit of the Faith and is essential to proper Scriptural interpretation.
