What does the Church mean by “Divine Revelation”?

Divine, of course, means God. Revelation comes from the world reveal.

God reveals himself to man.

God freely chooses to reveal himself to man. He has done this gradually over time. We can read about this gradual revelation in Sacred Scripture.

The Old Testament culminates in the New Testament.

We can read about God’s gradual Divine revelation not just in the many historical events in the Bible, but most importantly in the covenants with Noah, Abraham, Israel (and Moses), and ultimately Jesus Christ.

In Christ we find the definitive covenant. There is no further Revelation. In Jesus Christ, God fully reveals himself to humanity. Through Jesus we find a sacred unity with God. We are not disconnected, but instead find communion with the Lord.

Today we experience God’s revelation through Sacred Scripture and the Tradition passed down by the Apostles that Jesus appointed as his teachers.
