Literally my favourite thing is getting "pet", "love", "sweetheart", etc from kindly older folks. It's common all over but particularly in the North, in Scotland and in Wales. ❤

Okay but the transition from "don't even look at my phone! Away beast!" to fully swooning 😅🖤 Too cute

One of my British friends occasionally calls me "mate" or "love" and I (secretly) get nearly giddy with joy every single time. It makes me feel like the coolest American ever. :D

My husband and I lived in Newfoundland, Canada (St. John's) for a time. At first I had no friends and I was very homesick, but I would go for groceries and pick out the oldest lady cashier in the store. Invariably she would ask, "Did you find everything you were looking for, my love?"

That would warm me so much that I could smile back and say, "Yes, thank you." ❤

I used to melt whenever someone called me "love" or "darling" when I visited London. I am friends with a British guy and he accidentally calls me "love" and he immediately apologises because it's not common in our country, but I reassure him. Little does he know that I absolutely love that 😂

I saw you guys in the train station! I didn't come over to say hey because it didn't feel appropriate but you guys looked happy and are a lovely couple! Hope you visit the UK again 😁

When my mom and I went to London, I sat next to an elderly British couple. I sat far away from my mom for the first time so I was nervous. I wanted to open my water bottle but my hands were too sweaty so the woman that sat next to me asked me if I needed help and I were too nervous to get any words out so I just nodded and gave her my bottle with shaky hands. She opened it and said in this really sweet calming voice
"There you go, darling" and smiled at me. I said in a shaky voice "T-Thank you" and she laughed and responded with no worries, dear" I smiled at her and took a sip from my bottle. I hope she and her husband are well.

My boyfriend is British, first time I visited him I was so happy when older people called me "love". Made me really sad when I was going back home and a lady at the airport called me "love" and I realised I wouldn't be called that again for a long time. :(

As a londoner, the phone snatching is scary, but I just keep it in my pocket or ignore them, as they often come when you look at them! Have a nice time! Hope you enjoy it after all the paperwork. Also calling people endearing terms is very common here, and I love it personally

I watch a YouTuber who works with lions. He once said to a lioness, who had just eaten his TIRE, "You bloody, naughty lion." I melted.

I remember my first time visiting England and being called "love" in the shop. It was a culture shock. I'm from Sweden. NO ONE, absolutely no one would call you that here. 😂

We spent an amazing week in London about 25 years ago, but our first experience was being pickpocketed in an underground station 😕 The positive thing was that the station police were very nice, and even treated us to a free lunch in their canteen 😊

On the 'love' and 'sweetheart' thing - If you were in Liverpool you'd have both been called 'duck' instead.

The British "love" and "sweetheart" is so sweet. They also use it as sarcasm, and often a dry one at that, so that's fun. 😅

upd: 1k likes in 3 hours? you lot. ♥️👏

Honestly how I feel in London as a Northerner (North England). I was there last weekend and I'm still recovering
