What frustrates me, as someone who's lived here for a long time, is the way that nobody seems to mind or realise that they're being groomed, by all these endless "safety" notices and announcements. These are only there to enfeeble us.

I was born and grew up in London and I hate the place, I avoid it like the plague. I really like your take on it, the place is terrifying on many levels like a machine. It is very detached from the rest of the country and most people hate the place.

Ireland and Dublin other parts of the urban East in particular are catching up rapidly on where London is now. This considering Britain has been heading that way since the end of WWII while Ireland has only embraced near unbridled globalism since the Ahern Era. We are talking about an extraordinary rate of change here in less than a generation compared to just about anywhere else including London . I get the impression many Irish simply don't get how much of an extreme case this is.

Having been born in SW London and lived here most of my life, I recognise what Gearóid says. The Cosmopolitan Elite is something I've noticed over the years. They live in certain areas, go to certain shops and turn up to certain sporting events (like Wimbledon). They go skiiing, go to expensive private schools, and have a place in the country to retreat to at weekends and holidays. Holidays/homes in Spain Italy France etc.

I've been going to Dublin since the 90s for GAA matches in Croke park and every year the city gets worse. I used to stay for a bit of craic now I just want to get out after the game is over. Feels like a foreign country.

You were far too generous with London - I'd be furious if I won an all expenses paid trip there, never mind paid to visit it. I'm British, but I can't get out of there quick enough when I visit on business. Same with Dublin - arrive on ferry. Get on N/M7. Get to the west side.

Lads India was the "jewel in the crown of the British empire", not Dublin lol. My mistake. It was the empire's second city though.

London is the matrix many there never ever manage to even leave. Its exactly what is happening to ireland as a whole country and shows the result or where ireland is going unless we take our roots back

It was much the same 40 years ago, when on occasions of no work in the North of Scotland I would migrate South. People on tubes would pretend to read newspapers, rather than make eye contact and everyone seemed frightened of their own shadow. You could collapse in the street and two thousand people would trample over you, before one would ask if you were OK? One evening whilst travelling by tube to a nightclub in Leicester Square. My friend and I were rather strangely dressed ( it was a Native American themed club) and also downing beer and vodka. Sheepishly an Arabic looking young man of similar age to ourselves, approached to ask directions as he had missed a changeover stop and was lost. We sat him down and explained his mistake, he was taken aback at our friendliness and said that initially he had judged us wrongly, admitting his fear in approaching us. He then explained that upon approaching "normal " looking people, he had been rudely ignored or looked at as if he was some sort of nut case. My friend and I are both Scottish, used to, I guess, similar social interactions as yourself in Ireland.

I'm a Londoner. It's fascinating to see the city from the perspective of an outsider. I saw and witnessed what you saw. It was an extemely unpleasant time. Not all of us believed the nonsense. Thanks for your post.

First time I watched your channel
I think you made some very good points around the absurdities of the new normal

Londoners think your crazy if you speak to them. I do it everyday for the reactions. 🤣😂 There is more CCTV in the UK than any other place in the world.

The city of London is massively depressing, everyone is cold and paying huge bills to simply stay afloat. Ironically the people who "love" london, live for their holidays. I'm only in London because I was born here, the jobs for my career are here and moving to somewhere like devon would be too big of a restart to do alone.

I don't even fly into London Heathrow anymore. If I am going to spend time in England I fly to Gatwick or one of the other regional airports and then head out into the country side. There are still some unspoiled places and great country pubs but you have to put some effort into finding them.
