We Bought an Old Abandoned Ranch House in Texas… Was This a HUGE Mistake?! 😱

We finally did it. We bought a freaking house! But not just any house…we bought maybe the worst house on the market. It’s an 8 acre Texas ranch house that’s been abandoned for 20 years! Over that time, it has had every type of squatter imaginable living here (both people and creature 😳). Can we salvage and renovate this horrifying hoarder house?? Or will we just burn it to the ground and start over? Who knows! Either way, let the endless house renovation begin!

Step 1: get a couple of 60-yard dumpsters. Finish the tiny house first!

Piece of unsolicited advice: I am watching another YouTuber who is doing a house renovation, he admits no prior experience, but he is learning how via YouTube videos. This can be ok, but the further he goes, the more apparent it is that he hasn’t thought this through. Installs walls and floors in attic and second floor, then realizes that basement walls need footers, and basement floors need to be replaced due to water issues. Starts addressing that, but then decides that he wands an addition that almost doubles size of basement. Starts to dig it, runs into water table; now needs to lower that by adding drains. Digs (with excavator) 15-ft deep trench in sand to lay tile; runs around in trench with no shoring - this is VERY dangerous as people die in trench collapses. Heaven only knows what is next.

So, congratulations on the house. I’m looking forward to seeing you do the renovation. But, please at least read the comments- there are those here with renovation experience (I’ve done 3 myself). We want you to succeed.

Congratulations! You'll be able to live in Clementine while you're working on the house. I would think about laying down a concrete pad to park Clementine on to keep her from degrading. You might also want to put a carport over it too, to give yourselves shade. I can't wait to watch this new adventure!

Have you tried asking your local fire department if they wanted to use that house for a control burn, usually they take awake what is left behind and you can start anew with no cost for the take down.

When getting your dumpsters, ask about a ‘whole house tear down’ or similar language. This has saved us a TON of money. We are doing the same thing you all are doing.

Knock it down and re-build. It's Clementine 2 except with foundations!😄

Maybe you can name your new property, " Brisket Manor."

The potential for this is absolutely phenomenal. Good for you for spotting it. You're going to have an amazing property when you're done and it will give you years and years of content and sure hard work, but the setting is priceless. Having woods and lawns and all kinds of potential! Well done, you!!!

I'm never making another electric bill payment ever.
This house is right out of the movie- 'Invasion of the body snatchers.'.
Bulldoze the house and have a modular dropped off and setup. Then enjoy your acreage, I sure am with mine.

No, this wasn’t a huge mistake. This is going to be awesome. I’m all in. Clementine was an adventure but you were overcome with repairs, So time to put that effort into this homestead. You have already reno’d a couple RVs so you can do this and I’m excited to watch!

This seems to be the end of an era, a real seachange:
The Endless Adventure, Eva Zu Beck, The Travel Beans, Vanwives, Eamonn & Beck, Mr & Mrs Adventure all settling down and buying property. Ah well, good luck to all, I'll keep watching!!!

A sky light that doubles as a rain shower! LOL.
That's hilarious!
8-acres, though. Priceless!

Oh, and put my wife and I down for a week's rental when you guys finish! I'll bet the stargazing is fantastic out there.

Congratulations!! Ya'll should watch Jenna Phipps on YouTube. She recently bought an abandoned mid century modern house in Canada. It was in very rough shape with lots of water damage, mold, rats, etc. Her & her boyfriend are doing the majority of the renovations themselves so they've encountered most of the issues you're about to run into.
Also, I bet the animals living in the ceiling were so annoying to whoever was squatting in the home that they decided to take down all the tiles to stop them from running around up there lol.

*Our God indeed is a covenant keeping God. Has he said a thing and not perform it? I watch how things unfold in my life, from penury to $356, 000 every three months and I can only praise him and trust him more. Hallelujah 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻*

Oh my, that house stresses me out! Creepy. I would tear it down and start clean. The land is beautiful.
