We Made A HUGE Mistake With This RV DIY Project 😳

We were in over our heads on this one. This was really a 1-day project that took us nearly a week because of our lack of really knowing what we were doing. Learning in the school of hard knocks is sometimes our MO!

Pro tip, mount the faucet and drain before dropping sink in makes it a lot easier

You two are awesome. Even though it didn’t go as easy as hoped, you had the courage to do it yourselves, the patience needed and in the end, even if it’s a temp fix, you got it working with no leaks!! Good on ya!

FYI-With the fire extinguisher it should lay flat, so the 'mix' inside does not seperate- a tip we where told about😊

Nice job. You could leave out the plate at the base of the faucet. That is only used when you need to cover a 3-hole installation, and your sink has one hole for the faucet.

That sink looks really nice, however, if I were to see the plumbing job you did in a home or RV, I would walk away. You can do better. Cut the ABS back to where it enters the cabinet and build it all new. It's not rocket science. And don't use the flex pipe. That just screams, "I don't know what I'm doing".

LOL I did the same thing in my 2000 Rally - I did the plex for the sink but the drain from the right sink was leaking when draining water. All new... Flex Seal... Done.. LOL

I just watched your IKEA trip for storage bins for your RV, and when you said you didn’t know how to pronounce the words because it’s Swedish. I never thought of this before, but I wonder if translate on the iPhone translates the words by scanning it. I don’t know if it’s a thing, but I am going to check it out, and I love your channel i’ve learned so much for my own camper you guys give the best tips and tricks for making things work. You guys are great!! 25:38

If you eliminated the horizontal black pipe attached to the sink and the second peatrap you could set it up properly

I’d like to replace our rv’s double sink but I really like the sink covers. They cover the sinks completely and the faucet is the only thing visible. I pop one in & I have more counter top space.
When our sticks ‘n bricks kitchen was renovated the plumber was able to move the under sink plumbing back towards the wall so that the under sink space was usable.

first off love your videos. they have been very helpful for a newbie . but please get rid of the flexible p-trap and angle to the black pipe. look online homedepot p trap adapter to make up for different size pipe. also recommend shorter saw blades

Your old sink looks ours on our 2003 Newmar Dutch Star. We love it. Did you buy a lot deeper sink than the original . Seems like you could just make the drain hose into a loop which would give you a trap. Think rolls coaster loop. Safe travels and enjoy the journey. Love your channel.

I have that exact sink in my house. I have a sink and a half in my trailer and you’re right big pots and pans are a pain to wash

Y’all need a dish pan now for two reasons. That sink is huge and holds too much water especially in a boondocks situation. Also I store stuff in my sink during travel mode and don’t want to scratch it. We did that same mod and love that sink!

Charity, Ben, I really enjoy your channel and following you. I have been for quite a while. I also know how frustrating DIY projects can get and all you want to do is finish it! But, after you have time to recharge, you really need to go back and fix that plumbing under the sink. It's not good for the long term and although I'm not a plumber, it probably violates various code stipulations for industry standards. Just that one piece being cantilevered out is going to eventually vibrate and shake loose. All the best to you. If I was closer, I'd come over and give Ben a hand with it. 😁Don in Florida

Oh No. I had the flexible pipe in one of my bathroom sinks. Over time guck and gluck gets caught in the folds and you can't Drano it. (clean it out) My pipe got so heavy it separated. Water mess everywhere. Now I have smooth pipes connected properly. $$$ The idea of flexible pipes is nice but it doesn't last.

Those accordion pipes are a bad solution and using a p trap sideways is worse and uses up space Cut the black piping back a bit and glue in new PVC so the trap is repositioned directly below the sink drain tail piece. You could probably do it with one 45° elbow. Then everything will fit behind the sink drain.

Congrats, your wherewithal ended up gaining much, much, much really needed wisdom.
