Moldova, Why Russia REALLY wants them…

Leaked Russian documents called the Moldova strategy confirm Putin's plans to destabilize Moldova and bring them back into their sphere of influence by 2030. Moldova is a small land locked nation between Romania and Ukraine that is seen as being torn between Russian and Western influence. The U.S. Government has generally considered Moldova together with Georgia and Ukraine as three countries that are seeking greater integration with the West while at the same time coping with separatist territories and separatist conflicts that have been fostered by Russia.

So what do these documents reveal about Russia’s overall strategy and their own perspective on how events are unfolding in the region? On March 14th Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean took one look at the Moldova Strategy leaked documents and said “The Russians have tried for a very long time to make sure Moldova does not have sovereignty over its foreign policy,” Meanwhile Putin accused Ukraine of staging a false flag Russian invasion of Moldova in order to give Ukraine the green light to invade. Last time I checked Ukraine is not the one invading a neighboring country. This is where Transnistria comes into the picture. It’s a small pro-russian territory in Eastern Moldova located along the Black Sea bordering Ukraine, that also happens to identify as an independent country, but one else recognizes this.

I’d like to identify as an independent Nation of Cappynistira, there now I dont have to pay taxes. Just last week Moscow-backed Transnistrian authorities claimed they arrested two terrorists who had planned to assassinate Vadim Krasnoselsky the president of Transnistria, blaming Ukraine for the plot. But it gets more complicated than that. In early February of this year, Russia rescinded an official decree from 2012 that guaranteed Moldova’s sovereignty, essentially saying that they no longer respect the Moldovan government’s right to independence or territorial integrity, and this comes shortly after Ukrainian president Zelensky’s warning that Russia was seeking to force out Moldova’s pro-Western leadership.

We don't have the necessary 3-1 advantage, but we could still make Cappynistria a thing if we plan this right

One small correction. The moldovans speak romanian. Even their parlament recently voted the law that recognized romanian as the official language (as the moldovan language was a soviet fiction to separate romanians and moldovans even more). Saying moldovan is a language it's like saying you speak american in USA and not english :D (that's how different "moldovan" and romanian are)

Moldova used to be the poorest country in Europe nobody cared about, but now we are on the headlines! Great success!

As a Moldavian, I must say that the information is quite accurate 👍, just one thing, the language we speak is called Romanian, there’s no such language „Moldavian“

Hey Chris, at 08:12 the official language of Moldova is romanian and not "moldavian", this has recently been approved by a law on March 16 2023 by the Moldovan Parliament. At 11:27, Moldova was granted EU candidate status and not EU membership.

Just a small correction to 11:28 - Moldova has not been granted EU membership, as the text say, they have been given a path for accession. Meaning, a list of things they need to fix before they can become member.

Moldova is ethnically Romanian. It was Russian Empire district Besserabia and became part of Romania after WW I. After WW2 Stalin created it as a Soviet republic. He placed ethnic Russians into the Transnistria district, he called this 'creating facts'. On the collapse of the USSR and Moldova breaking away these ethnic Russians like those in Ukraine Donbas were placed to cause problems by being 'Stalin's Facts'.

As a moldovan, I would rather be a NATO "puppet state" rather than a ruzzian puppet state. I know which option would not destroy my culture

In June 2022 the EU has granted candidate status to Moldova, not membership. There's a long road ahead to membership, unless Moldova joins Romania. But even that may be difficult, due to the many political implications.

Rep of Moldova is a former region of Romania, which was annexed by the Soviet Union after WW2. The majority of the population are ethnic Romanians and the official language is Romanian.

Moldova should have reunited with Romania after the collapse of the USSR, but communist Moldovan politicians were against this proposal .

Joining Romania seems to be the best path for Moldova currently. Romania has a superior economy, no cultural, religious or linguistical differences and Moldova would automatically become part of NATO and EU.

After Putin's invasion of Ukraine the number of Moldovans who want to reunite with Romania has risen to 40%. Pro-Russia Moldovans are mostly old people who were brainwashed by USSR.

The Russian forces in Transnistria are quite small and ill equipped. If Romania's military were to conduct a "special military operation" there, the region would be Russian free by the end of the week.

Ok Cappy is wrong about Moldova being landlocked and the reasons are odd to say the least. Moldova used to be landlocked however in the 90's Ukraine traded 340 feet of land so Moldova had some land to make a port on the Danube. Why this is important is the Danube is considered international waters so any ship going down does not have to go into any foreign country.

Moldavia really has 1 option, merge into Romania. This would make them immediate EU members. Romanians would need an integration plan like Germany has with East Germany.

Overall it is a spot on summary. Moldova was the first victim of Russia playing the break-away regions card. It has been perfected, and played later in Georgia, and then Ukraine. Hopefully for the last time.

I live in Transnistria. The government say 500.000 people live here. We don't believe them. 350.000 is a more accurate number. The population is getting older. Soon the whole Transnistrian "country" will fall apart by itself. Just give it some time. And there is no such thing as a Moldovan language. They speak Romanian in Moldova.
