Russia is being accused of political interference in Moldova, with regular protests and allegations of a recent attempted coup.

One cyber watchdog in the country says they are now fighting a pro-Russian hybrid war.

Republic of Moldova is simply the eastern half of Romania's Moldova region (which is much larger), invaded by USSR in 1940, thus drawing Romania in WW2 on the Axis side. But the official language in Republic of Moldova is still Romanian! 82% of its population is Romanian and speaks Romanian as it's mother tongue. They study "ROMANIAN language and literature" and "History of ROMANIANS" as compulsory subjects in Moldovan schools. In fact, Principality of Moldova became in 1859 a founding member of Romania when it decided to unify with Wallachia, under a MOLDOVAN prince! About 50% of the population of Republic of Moldova have applied for and received Romanian citizenship, arguing that their forefathers have lost it unjustly during Soviet occupation. Not only does Republic of Moldova and Romania have the same flag, but they had the same anthem as well until 1994! So Republic of Moldova is for Romania what East Germany was for West Germany...

I think culture plays a super important role to decide where people are leaning towards. Like not small amount of Ukrainians had been always Russia-leaning, especially who used to live through Soviet Union period always wanna go back to the way it was if they run into the hard time in their lives, all the way until their houses ended up being bombed, shelled indiscriminately. Ironically, the people like that lady who works in the market will be affected the most if Russia troops come in.

The MFA of RUSSIA especially the SPOKESPERSON of. RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY, MARIA ZAHAROVA made another slip-up. She argued that following historical logic, the Romanian language should be called Moldovan, and not the other way around. The historical fact is that MOLDOVA LANGUAGE is ROMANIA LANGUAGE and has been proven SCIENCE BASED! Moldova should unify with Romania, they'd gain EU membership, and the Russians would have to leave Transnistria, or Romania could invoke article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

After many moldavians already fled west there are 2-3 millions citizens left in Moldova. In economic terms they are lowest in EU and because of that they're the most affected by the prices. It is annoying how such a big and wealthy union can't bail out 3 mil people so that the pro-russians don't have any reason to complain! I think Moldova should be totally subsidized by EU these days and actually drag them into EU market providing them with all the assistance and help from EU so they can start building a decent economy. If we do it now we won't have to rebuild it in the future as with Ukraine.
