Ukraine war: Moldova fury at Russian general's 'unacceptable' remark on territorial war aim

Moldova summoned Russia's ambassador in protest after a Russian general said Moscow wants to capture southern Ukraine to gain access to a breakaway Moldovan region.

There's very little downside in Moldova taking steps to prepare for war, especially as they've been given a warning already. If the war doesn't come to their nation, they can decrease the level of preparadness appropriately. It's not a breakaway region, btw, it's occupied by Russian forces.

Everyone knows the episode where Lukashenko stood before a map of the invasion plans of Moldovia. Most everyone would have immediately unified with Romania and NATO troops and equipment would be pouring into Moldovia today. Instead, we will see the EU bureaucrats have the Moldovans filling out mountains of paperwork with promises that they will expedite the paperwork. It will probably come through just as the Russians have complete power in Moldova, the leaders have been executed, the cities destroyed and then the newly 'elected' president of Moldovia, hand in hand with Putin, will say that they no longer need a union with the fascist West. At this point, Romania will have Russian troops on their border, which I am sure will be a delightful source of insurrection for the next 20 years until Putin's successors start the process.

In the early start of this war, the Belarusian leader was standing next to a map, with red arrows going into Ukrainian and Moldova. So it looks like Moldova is next.

Russia has shat the bed strategically. Even if they "win", they're infinitely worse off than before they started. If Finland joins NATO then the size of the border they must defend grows exponentially. The additional costs to defend that frontier are mind boggling and would have been exorbitant even without all the sanctions. Good luck importing microchips, komrades.

Moldova should join NATO as soon as possible and before Putin can order his savage soldiers into their country.

Moldova should merge with Romania. This way it will skip the laborious and lenghty process of aligning its institutions to EU and NATO norms. Romanian institutions which are already integrated in NATO and EU will take their place and Moldova will instantly be granted international security. This is not an ilogical move in the slightlest as Moldova's people speak the same Language as Romania, have the same culture, religion and history and the very idea of an union is not something new.

Lovely, there were nuclear cruise missles on the "Moskva" battle ship that sunk in the Black Sea. Russians working on recovering them now. Peace is best. Poisoning the Black Sea fails to serve humanity.
