I was recently on the island of Rhodes Greece when I found I needed a suit for a function I was invited to. I went to a Zara store and picked up a great suit $99 CDN pants, $165 CDN jacket. The fit was perfect and I have never in my life ( I'm 55) received so many compliments on what I was wearing. Usually I buy the $1000 dollar suits, so I was very surprised at the response on this inexpensive suit.

"With money it's easy to be stylish...there's millionaires that look like crap." Pretty sure the person from the email meant people with more money can afford to buy clothing that is perceived to be more stylish, more tailoring (and, by extension, better quality tailoring), and clothing that is considered more stylish based on societal standards and perception. Simply put, a $300 shirt made in the US by Brooks Brothers (by hand) will look better than a $15 shirt from Target. Sure, money does not equal style, no questions about it, but it definitely helps it along.

My trick.

Buy a suit second hand for about $30. Make sure it fits in the shoulders, and that you have enough fabric in the sleeves and legs to let out if it's too short. Then have it tailored for about $150. Total cost approximately $180.

Done this with about 7 suits and blazers, and they all look amazing. I look and feel x100 better than if Id bought a suit off the rack, and it's usually much cheaper.
