I think the main reason Custodes are so hard to kill is cos none of them want end up being interred into a plastic Contemptor. - Seriously, not even upgrade sprues for the contemptor or landraider to make them look a bit more venerably!? They look so out of place amid the super-ornate Custodes.

The more I see them the more they slowly grow on me and the low model count makes them a very attractive addition to any Imperialist. However, it does look like a pretty thin book and I'm surprised they didn't pad it out by adding the Sisters of Silence - whatever happened to them? Will they be getting their own (even thinner) codex?!

Great review, damn expensive in points, but having used a group of 5 from the index it took 2 turns of tau shooting to reduce them to 1 man, when I say tau shooting near enough the entire 2000 point army. I just used the 5 from prospero set, which would give a codex patrol, but this!?! OMG! Obscenely survivable! Won't tske much to make a full battle forged army, 2 boxes of custodes plus a box of bikes or terminators. Out of the park!

When they were announced on open day tbh I was rather non plussed. But after hearing some of the stuff in this codex, as well as the black armour schemes...hmmm. Might have to get me some too. Great review.

I have wanted to make an imperial soup build for a long time, this makes it really work for me.

Also, I could see having used the Praetorian plate working if you had taken someone like Celestine as she is so mobile and scoot her up on another part of the board, then shunting Your shield caption over as a planned long ranged movement, assuming you have finished your task on the other side of the board, then helping hammer another flank or just using it as general mobility feature.

I think this pick has tactical use. Say you took a command detachment of shield captions in terminator plate as melee tanks in an imperial soup build, and want that extra mobility after you brutalize that section of the battle field.

Unless your opponent is savvy and remembers your rules (and if they are an melee army or ranged army has a lot to do with this option) they might not want to charge some characters, to have that suppression is interesting.

I think I'll be planting a lot of banners though.

You know I was thinking about that, this army is now the monetarily cheapest army games workshop offers. I have a grip of guardsmen already with some tanks, and a single box of custodes at $60 dollars is a shield captain, custodes squad, and standard to buff mah guardsmen's morale. This is pretty much awesome.
