Alright guys I’m going to jump into a volcano with all my fridge magnets wish me luck

I’m a Ph.D. Student doing magnetocaloric research. Did an internship with DOE and there are a lot of people working to realize magneocaloric refrigerators. I work on finding cheaper materials with similar performance to gadolinium since it’s super expensive. Magneocaloric cooling has been seen to be 12x as efficient as vapor compression!

Great video but it would help a lot more to highlight the thermometer or bring the video higher, in YouTube Shorts, that thermometers is being blocked by the video title making it hard to see

I've never misunderstood one of your videos as much as this one🤔
Still cool though!

He said a lot of words but I understood very few of them.

Was starting to comment if we could scale this up for a/c or refrigeration.... then he said it lol. Wonder how efficient this is. Though the strong magnets probably ruin the cost of it

Translation for regular people:
When Gadolinium enters, then leaves a Magnetic field, it's unique property activates. It can now hold more heat than it could prior to entering the Magnetic field; therefore, the surrounding area gets colder.

Ex.
The inside of a box is 100°
Gadolinium enters the magnetic field.
The temperature in the box increases to 105°
Gadolinium is removed from magnetic field
Unique property activates, now it can absorb more heat
The temperature in the box decreases to 95°

(The numbers aren't accurate, i just used them to make it easier to understand)

I didn't understand the word you said but I think it's pretty cool 🤔

Thanks for not leaving the graphic at the end around long enough to see it 👌

For YouTube Shorts, it's difficult to see that there is a thermometer at the bottom of the screen. I'm on Android, idk if that makes a difference. Otherwise, fascinating video.

How many refrigerators use this technology? Is this mainstream? Really cool science!

Do you realize how many people youre the science teacher to? I'm 43 and you're my adult version of my favorite childhood science teacher

It’s not that the DOF are eliminated, it’s that the energies of states are rearranged so that you have a lower density of states at a given energy and the range of energies is spread out more

You should definitely be a teacher or be hired to come teach some classes. You're brilliant
