This in Oz is called the Birdman rally at Moomba and has been going for since 1972 when it was first raced in South Australia having come from England. Maybe a different group but...

It is sadly diminished to 22ft it was much higher and less wimpy but there are some great engineers building quite beautiful flying/glider contraptions that get immediately destroyed even if they survive 😢
