Peter Steele (Type O Negative) talks about Love and Hate

A lot of people think that Type O Negative loves to hate, when in reality we hate to love because all love ends, and all love ends in pain. So why start something that, that you know, at the end, it's just gonna rip your hear out?

Even though he joked around quite a bit, you could tell he was in pain and hid it with humor, and some of his comedic statements actually have a lot of truth in them as well

Peter at last has gone to the place where Love is ALL. The honesty of his personal experience is so painful to observe. 😭

💔 It's amazing how many people, myself included, can connect to the sadness and appreciate Peter Steel's artistic and emotional expression ... But as I got older, I realized that he was a sad young man, dealing with depression and substance abuse until he died.

This is why it's important to not have "idols." I was really into rocks, grunge, metal, and goth in the 90s. I thought music was going to change the world for the better because musicians were making waves. Addressing important issues. Speaking their truth. Then I grew up and realized I was idolizing men and women that were on drugs, had amazing music careers and success, but still not happy.

The lesson is to believe in yourself. Life can and does get better if you do something about it.
No one has all the answers. Do whatever healing work is right for you and let go of all those negative energies that are toxic. Resolve and move on. 💖

Sadness sold in the 90s and as a result our generation are dealing with it as adults. It's a choice to live in misery. Even with mental illness, there are positive ways to change your mindset and heal. Don't be afraid to be happy. We all deserve to give that to ourselves. 💖

He's right. I mean even if a relationship goes for decades it will end in pain when one of them passes away. But for me the pay off is worth it. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

He LOVED working for the parks department. He loathed touring! He had to be forced into it. Sad really. He might be alive today if he didn’t go on tours. Bloody kisses to you Pete ❤💚🖤🫡

Poor guy. If you truly love someone, the grief you feel when they're gone pales in comparison to the love and happiness you shared while they were here.

Peter was so interesting. He started a hardcore punk thrash band in NYC called Carnivore and decided after the second album to stop playing music and apply for the New York Police Department after cutting off his hair. His friend who was a drummer wanted to start a band with Peter so he visited him one day to try to convince him to start a band together and he agreed on the condition they make dark, poetic music more in line with the 80’s bands he was listening to at the time like Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins and the Cure. A couple lineup changes later and we got the almighty Type O Negative.

This breaks my heart to hear the pain in his voice. He was such a kind person and was treated so poorly by women when he put everything into each relationship. RIP Peter you are truly missed and loved
