What's going on with the Pixel 9 Pro? (review)

The Pixel 9 Pro is here. It's exciting. It's in new colors and shapes. We finally get a full Pro camera in a smaller chassis! But Google wants you to know that this phone is all about AI. Is that a bad thing? And even if it isn't, why are some other problems not being addressed? Find out in this Google Pixel 9 Pro review.

Complaining about it having Android 14 is just silly.. the new OS ALWAYS comes out in October.. just because they released hardware early, that doesn't mean they're going to RUSH the software if it wasn't 100% ready.. if they did.. everyone would be complaining about that then saying it's buggy and wasn't ready for prime time..

People want the Pixel 9 Pro for specific reasons. I guess some of them like good AI features, or want to have a really good camera on their phone. Would they want to buy the S23 Ultra just for the Qualcomm chip and the higher benchmarks..? While they talk about performance improvements I never see phone companies advertising great bench marks as a selling point, why do YouTube presenters do it..? The Tensor G4 is clearly not clocked as high as Qualcomm chips but it does what Google needs it to do for their Pixel phones, and as long as customers don't go around A B'ing their Pixel with Samsung and other phones Pixel users will very likely be happy with what they have. Real world usage, an all too common phrase, but that's where it's at for Google's Pixel phones.

Slight correction on the charging.
The new charger is 45w
The 9pro xl charges at 37w
The 9pro and 9 charge at 27w

No one cares about bench mark scores now apart from geeks unable to let go

The perfomance figures wouldn't matter to me. I'd still play games on this thing. Plus we all know software updates will fine tune things overtime.

“Let’s talk about that” is the single most annoying sentence every youtuber has a need to repeat in every video. “Let’s talk about that” is new black.

Okay. I thought you were going to point out something significant, but let me not be negative. Nothing you mentioned is an issue for me.

When will tech reviewers realise that the majority of people don't care about gaming and benchmarks are rather useless, especially as chips become more specialized. Real world perfermonce is all that matters in that regard. I'm in an Iphine 14 pro max and I don't notice a difference between it and my wife's pixel 6pro for everyday use.

Why do most YouTubers compare this year's phone to last year's.
Most people upgrade after 2 or 3 years at least. Going back to the Pixel 3 is overshooting so how about the Pixel 6?

Lol, this isn't a review. This is a video of someone complaining about every niche thing that most people don't give two cents about.

It's your opinion though, and frankly speaking, it doesn't matter to most people.

7:37 Yes, I noticed this when I compared the Pixel 9 Pro XL with my Pixel 7 Pro at 15x. Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro don't have this issue at 15x. The reason is that in contrast to Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro always uses analog binning at 10x-30x (unless you choose the 50 megapixel mode) and it tries to compensate for the lower resolution with machine learning. At 10x (and good light conditions), the Pixel 9 Pro XL only gives you 2.4 megapixel dng files that have far less detail than the 11.4 megapixel dng files of my Pixel 7 Pro. 10x-30x live photo video frames have significantly less detail, too due to analog binning. It would be nice if you could ask Google regarding these issues.

If you choose the 50 megapixel mode (and combine it with Night Sight for a better noise performance), then you nearly don't get these issues with wrong letters/numbers in the 15x jpgs because the 50 megapixel mode disables binning, but you can't take live photos in the 50 megapixel mode.

Live photo video frames are very important for me: They are useful for taking photos of birds and they let me better interpret which parts of a photo are real or artifacts.

1:04 actually they are very ergonomic. They’re helpful for if you DON’T like constantly dropping your phone. Did you know that the sides of a handheld device are supposed to let you GRIP and HOLD it? We moved to curved sides cause they LOOKED pretty but if you’re claiming they’re more ergonomic as in easier to hold, then you might wanna retake physics class.

I really like the review, and I'm a die-hard Pixel fan lol. Really surprised to see these comments. I'll be upgrading to 9 Pro but some of y'all acting like it's the perfect phone.

This is my jssue with Youtube reviewers, theyre terminally online and judge phones on benchmarks but not real life scenarios which should be the main focus. Ive had Samsung Galaxies for years and made the switch to the pixel and won't look back. Yes Samsung phones have all the bells and whistles but I barely use any of the features and the pixel features are most useful to me for my day to day. You shouldn't judge a phone solely on the benchmarks and physical features.

Look at these Pixel peeps seething at your review. You are spot on on it being a bang average phone being hyped up to high heaven for its "AI" features by Google. These "AI" features really don't justify its exorbitant pricing with a chipset that is 2-3 generations behind. And just take a look at the Pixel 9's video stabilization, how are you charging such prices with this kind of video performance?

I appreciate the (albeit short) comparison to the OnePlus 12. I have a Pixel 6 with a failing battery and have been going back and forth on whether I should go for the Pixel 9 Pro or the OnePlus 12 - the latter just seems like a better phone with batter longevity (1, 600 charging cycles) for less money. I just watched a JerryRigEverything teardown video of the Pixel 9 Pro XL and it seems the battery is very difficult to replace, which will be a problem in 2-3 years time.

I think I'll wait to see what the OnePlus 13 brings to the table as it seems like its launch is only a few months away, and then decide the direction I'll go in.

A comparison video between the Pixel 9 Pro and the OnePlus 12 would be great to see and very imformative!

Let’s please not forget that new vapor chamber on the pro’s hopefully the heat issues are less noticeable from previous pixels

You are right! The Pixel 8 Pro feels slower than the Xperia 1 V in day to day use. I don't care about gaming on my phone but the SD Gen 2 is better than Tensor G3 for simple tasks, as well. And it appears that it is better than the G4, too. And I bet the horrible choppy scroll in apps is still there. It is not reviewers hating on the pixels. They just have the chance to use more phones and see how they behave comparatively.
