Great advice..I have only been to Medellin but explored El Centro and Santo Domingo during the day only. Beautiful country and look forward to going back and it pays to be safe. I don't drink to excess and of course, 'No Dar Papaya".

See my issue is that all the things you're sharing. I am here in Bogota now, and I do not feel safe. The fact that you have to say stay in after dark is screaming NOT SAFE. I travel non stop and this doesn't feel right. I had an issue a few days with people. It's a hassle mentality. I felt this way in Dominican Republic also. I am a night person, so this really sucks!
