Treat Acne Like a Dermatologist #shorts

The most effective acne treatment depends on the type and severity. For my skin of color patients, and those who scar easily, I’m also more aggressive with treatment knowing they are prone to these harder to treat post acne marks!

If your acne is mild, certainly trying drugstore benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, and salicylic acid products is a good start. But after a few months of acne is not improving, please follow up with a dermatologist!

I had severe acne guys, I cut back on sugar, and ate fruits instead, no deep fried foods and no chips, hit the gym 6 days a week(cardio importantly) and washed my face twice a day, change pillow cases often(every 2 days), and apply little moisture on your face, only cheeks and forehead (less in summer, and more in winter), don't pick your skin at all, do not pop pimples. When washing your face, use one towel to remove water from hair and the 2nd to pat(not rub) face skin, this makes sure, your hair oil does not interfere with your face. Do this for 30 days, and I promise you will see a significant change.

I have hormonal and am on spironolactone and birth control. And I still get pimples. And if I stop these drugs, it will come back with a vengeance (from experience 4 yrs ago). I wish drs would stop pushing drugs and start preaching how to treat the root cause naturally.

EDIT: I stopped birth control 10 months ago & my skin hasn’t changed. I take a ton of natural supplements & try to eat low carb all day besides dinner. I’m also getting a period each month for the first time in my life!! 🤞

Taking Zinc and vitamin A is good too. Dermalogica has a nice scrub that helps exfoliate the skin to prevent clogged pores. Cut out sugar/ dairy and replace with lots of water.

You can’t just recommend tretinoin, you have to get your own dermatologist to prescribe it

THANK YOU for showing varying skin tones. Far too many dermatologists on here never show conditions in skin that isn't light/white... its frustrating because it shows they only see their audiences looking a specific way - which isn't inclusive.

Thanks for showing what these conditions look like in people with melanated skin, it’s educational.

I’m not a professional and always recommend to talk with your dermatologist first and see if any of this suits you, every body is different and can have different responses to the same treatment. I had crazy hormonal acne, after trying many things, now I finally got a routine that works for me.
As soon as I wake up I take probiotics skin on empty stomach, drink some ACV diluted in water, 15 minutes later I have oats for breakfast with oat milk or coconut milk, I add some gelatinized maca root powder and turmeric. After finishing eating I’ll take B-5 (first 2 weeks I would take 1000mg two pills, after that just 500mg 1 pill; some YouTube videos say to overdose 4+ pills a day but it can cause hair loss so that was a big no for me) and (rotate one day zinc for acne, the next cooper) to keep the balance between those two.
As for skincare I doble cleanse at night, first with cleansing oil then cerave foam wash, apply differin some days and rotate with azelaic acid some others, I let my face rest of actives 2 days a week and those days I apply la roche posay cicaplast.
During daytime I only wash with the foam, apply Paula’s choice 2% BHA, apply cerave moisturizer cream and finish with tinted sunscreen, I don’t apply any base or powder to my face, I just do my eyes and lips.
I try to not consume dairy, sodas, and very little sugar, sometimes I’ll have some bread and have a cheat meal once a week (pizza or hamburger with chips) I do Zumba once a week and try to keep my body moving and hydrated. sorry for the long text and I hope this helps 🤗

Thank you for your tip, bpo is great.

Never take birth control pills, they destroyed my whole hormonal system.
I am fighting since 10 years with hormonal imbalance and acne since birth control.

Guys I’m telling you the best advice for acne being a doctor:-
1.) stop consuming dairy, processed sugars and grains.
2.) drink 3-4 litres of water
3.) use cetaphil gentle cleanser
4.) do spot treatment with niacinamide 10% at night.

Come back to this comment in 4 weeks and tell me how it worked:)

I'm a registered dietitian, you can improve or fix most of these acne issues by focusing on your gut health. And always check your vitamin D status, go get your labs done before you start taking a bunch of meds and accruing pharmaceuticals.
The gut-microbiota is off in at least some of these cases or you're having insulin issues, especially for the PCOS/female acne she suggested birth control for.
Managing gut health can be a bit different for everyone. If there was a gut infection or antibiotics that triggered the acne, then fasting or carnivore diet for a bit can help to reset the gut bacteria. If PCOS focusing on insulin resistance and fiber+protein+omega 3s+less stress bc your cortisol is a mess, if autoimmune issues kick start acne than a vegetarian, vegan or even carnivore diet may be beneficial depending on how you respond.

Agreed. I live in Germany and it's hard to find a good derm here, so I don't have tretinoin and spironolactone for my chin acne. But BPO and retinaldehyde here are OTCs. I use them (not in the same routine) and I can feel a huge improvement.
