I agree with two. Getting over 22 mpg shouldn't be too much to ask in 2024, and more colors would be awesome.

Yeah 17 mpg combined after dropping cyls and adding cogs after 10+ years to work it out is just poor

I wouldn’t complain about the GX not being luxurious since the Defender interior is very utilitarian too and that’s the type of interior off-roaders should have

Most of the features and options that are missing now will likely become optional or standard later on down the road to keep the excitement around the new GX strong throughout its production run. It may sound a little silly initially, but I can see why Lexus would do this if it means we have stuff to look forward to in the future.

Yeah eKDSS should be standard on all trims like KDSS is standard on ongoing models

Mark Levison should be standard in luxury / luxury+ and optional in all other trims

and hybrid should've been the 3.4L tundra/sequoia setup yep

*here before naveenthekoreanmachine touting korean supremacy

What annoys me is the lack of real wood. In a luxury vehicle that should be offered, at least give me dang aluminum. The saddle brown leather interior saves it for me, but yeah full saddle would have been better. I would like the Luxury + with two rows. Also, speaking of the panoramic roof, if it’s not one that opens then it’s useless to me and a deal breaker. So I’m waiting for final details on that.

After working in ( non auto ) manufacturing all my life, I would say the interior color considerations are a convenience for them. Less variation means more productivity/throughput. Typically as models become established, different colors are introduced, both inside and out.
Might be a consideration of the old supply chain woes, still existing?.

Thanks for this and all your excellent reviews and updates! I purchased my first Lexus in 2022 (RX450hl) and love the vehicle but hate the useless 3rd row (we just use it down for extra trunk space). But, one of the things that impresses me are the nice materials they use on the inside, as you mention. I'm very impressed with the technology updates of the 23 RX, but I am turned off by the heavy use of suede where leather should be. I really feel that the use of suede - although it feels nice - overall cheapens the interior. I don't even know if it would wear or fade like the leather. I'm in Florida, too, and you know the sun is strong. What's your opinion of the use of suede in the new Lexus and Toyota models? I don't feel they can say the seats are leather any longer. Thank you.

Its not perfect but damn, if the Prado does come closer to this, I will definitely go for it.

Enough with the fuel econ. It's a full-time 4wd off-road box with 33-inch tires. The laws of physics are undefeated.

3rd row on an off roader is rough. Trying sitting in the third row when going over a speed bump 😂

What kind of acceleration can we expect from the OverTrail trims with the standard engine? 6-7 seconds or 7-8 seconds zero to 60?

I don’t fully agree with all the points but I definitely agree with the mpg thing. I think the boxy interior and more laid back styling is better for it imo. The interior of the Defender and G-Wagon are more boxy and less “luxurious” but I think it fits the off-road crowd more

Love your site!! Do you know by any chance if a roof rack with rails will be available on the Lexus GX 550 Luxury Plus due to the panoramic sunroof? I know it is avail now on the newer RX. Thanks again

Hey Kirk,

Thanks for all of the detailed and timely content!

Can you tell if the pano-roof will open on the GX?

I did not notice any separation in the glass.

If I was buying one there’s no way I would put down that much money without getting the Mark Lev sound system. It’s incredible.

Kirk, what would the price range be for the new US land cruiser? More than the GX the same or less?

I feel like this power train was the right move. I want more power and towing in a luxury suv, and I really don’t mind sacrificing fuel economy for that. And honestly, when has a motor ever been able two deliver on those two things plus have good fuel economy and then also be reliable. That’s just the trade off. You want longevity and power, you can’t also have economy. Also the overtrail with two rows makes sense to me. More room in the back for gear, and unless you have a huge family, four passengers is plenty.

Lexus just needs to put bigger gas tanks. 😂
