I think the real competitor to the Hilux GR Sport is the Ranger Wildtrack X with the V6 turbo diesel. I don’t think the GR Sport really competes with the Raptor.

What I'm really after is the long term reliability and easy of looking for parts and DIY maintenance that can last for over 300, 000 kilometers without major issue.

Toyota might be outdated but looking for a rock solid built quality and reliability the Toyota is the go to option!

Well, what do you know. A "ute" comparison which features none but the luxury features. Ute is supposed to be defined by its simplicity and lesser moving parts, which in turn gives reliability and endurance. The more parts you have, the more pain it is to maintain.

So if you're seeing the GRS to be lackluster in "features", it's probably because it's going to last 10 generations of Raptors.

PS, I'm a Raptor owner myself. Bought it last september 2024. Fuel pump broke just last month due to water presence. Went up a hill and it was having a hard time due to another issue, which maintenance said something about the sensors. You get the picture.

Here in South Africa, the tailgate locks with the doors and its also spring loaded. They also added some lights...

Hmm, the square milk carton feature is something that I hadn’t considered. That changes everything.

21:11 - you forgot to mention that the Raptor will park itself. 22:26 - If you want an off-road sports car, then run to the Raptor. OK - I might be a little biased. My '24 Raptor is ridiculous (in a good way).

which is reliable? which can go though hard time in nowhere with many problems but still keep going without breaking down?

I was taken around a gravel track in the Raptor and it's very impressive, not the biggest Ford fan but if I could afford it I would buy one. Otherwise stick to my favorite Mitsubishi vehicles.

One is a $100k house deposit on wheels, the other is a sensible work horse that never lets you down.

Come on. When you shake the gear lever centre control in the Toyota, you almost pulled it out?

Traded in my Hilux on the new Raptor. Have to admit, I love it. This Raptor is in a different class. So far standing on 163000 km without any issue, of which 85% is gravel road. Don't think Toyota will see me soon.

The biggest letdowns for me with the GR Sport Hilux is the tub. No assisted tailgate (it's a heavy bugger), and no power socket. For the price of this flagship model, I think these should be included, as Ford have done in the Ranger and Raptor.

Should we not be comparing the hilux Gr sport to the Ford Ranger Wildtrack ???? The Raptor in my opinion is a different league all together am I wrong ?

Our GR tailgate is linked to the central lock system in South Africa 😊

The Raptor is in a completely different league. It's a pure bred racing truck - the GR Sport is just a bodykit. I don't know how they've managed to sell any of these.

With the Hilux you get 15k of savings to spend on fuel. That is a big advantage.

On the new South African GR Sport Hilux, the central locking for the tail gate is standard. Also with power socket and light. Strange that they didn't fit it for the Australian market.
